  1. i recorded a show in divx using virtualdub
on virtualdub, there are 2 keyframe scroller buttons, one forward and the other backward
when i try to scoll thru the divx file it either goes forward or backwards by 200 frames which means i can only cut out along 200 frame boundaries not frame by frame, which means i have to sacrifice some part of the movie or keep some part of the advertsements,d'ya know what i mean?

Depending on how many key frames you set the DivX codec to record will depend on where the keyframe scroller will go to. In VirtualDub, under VIDEO, under COMPRESSION, select the DivX codec from the list, then click the CONFIGURE button. There, you have the option of setting how frequent the key frames are on a recording. It's too late for any already recorded clips to change them, but for future, check the setting there.

The other thing is that it seems like you're using the wrong scroll buttons. If you want to view EVERY frame, in order to cut out a frame or something, use the << >> buttons.

Most of the movies I have downloaded have a keyframe at every 10 frames.

You could re-encode by loading the movie into Vdub and saving it back out, select a compressor and click configure, the default should be 10 keyframes, but check anyway.

Next time you capture, do the same click configure on your output type (DivX)and check the keyframes.

  5. I am having similar trouble cutting exact frames in VDub. It always cuts on a keyframe and my key frames are always 100 frames apart. This is usually every 3.3 seconds. I use WinTV to capture using Divx 4 compression. In the configuration menu for this codec, I have set key frame rates at anywhere from 1 to 10 keyframes per second but still get one every 100 frames when I bring it into VDub. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
