Hi,
I have a sony hi 8 digital cam, and access to a mini DV Panasonic cam.
If I capture video from the 2 different brand cameras using Vegas 4, through a canopus OHCI capture card, what codec is being used on the captured AVI ?
Is the codec automatically assigned by eg - Vegas, Canopus or is the codec built into the brand of DV camera ?
Thanks
Scott

Your Canopus card does the analog to DV AVI in hardware. Vegas just transfers the data to disk in the proper format. Generally, the file is set to the Microsoft dv codec in the file (dvsd is the FourCC code, I think). There is really no software codec involved in what you are doing.
You can, however, install and use the Canopus DV read codec (do a search for CDVC on doom9.org).
