I encode from DVD settop players to Divx 4.01 in realtime using an AIW 128 16mb for 1 cd rips with a minimum of time invested for less than DVD quality anyway. I am generally pleased with the results. I have a 'secret menu' APEX and an AIWA DV170 which shuttles from the house to the car. With the macro patch applied to the AIW, I can encode from both players although the AIWA, which IMHO, has a better picture on my TV, outputs still visible horizontal lines while the APEX does not. I can only assume this is because the signal from the APEX has no macrovision blanking and the AIWA does, even though this no longer prevents the AIW from 'recording' the signal. Bottomline is the patch 'works' for 'some' AIWs but a no macro signal is better than any macro signal. Invest in a used P200 with DVD, a hollywood + card and software tweak out the macro. No macro and progressive out = nice captures.
