  1. Does anyone know if Sony has announced an upgrade and release date to a new model (8x, or otherwise) from the DRU510a, or the DRX....? The Sony rebate expires at the end of this month, and I was thinking something new would be relased November of December, but have not heard.

  3. 8x sounds nice, but it may only save you about 5 minutes.

  4. Why has Sony kept DVD-R only at 4x, and DVD-RW at a very low 2X?

You would think they would want to keep upto or even beat the Pioneer/Asus drive.

That link says that they are the Pioneer of dual format and makes them sound like the leader in DVD Recording, but the only advance from their last drive was 8X DVD+R.

I'll wait for the Pioneer 8x -R/+R or even the dual-layer drives!
Hell I'm sure the first generation dual-layer drives will be at least 4x or better when they start out.

Dont hold your breath waiting for that Pioneer 8X -R writer . There are design problems with the -R format and it takes the manufacturers longer to get them up to the same speed as +R .
Keep it on the big cam !
