  1. Hi,

I just returned my Sony DVPNS725P (progressive scan) North American version NTSC only player.
Because when i tested my home captured PAL dvd's, it didn't play. On the manual, it says it is because it won't cannot play PAL dvds. It plays fine on PC.
I do have multisystem TV and NTSC TV.

So my question is should i buy it again and Region hack the player? I was afraid if i Region hack and it won't work then the shop wouldn't give me a refund, because i made a modification to the player.

I would like to be able to play my home made PAL dvds. What do you think?

Or should i order a PAL dvd overseas since most o them play NTSC?

No! Buy a region free player online!!!!

    The player should be:

    Progressive Scan
    DTS, AC3
    MacroVison Free

You say that your TV is mutisystem. Are you sure? If is not, you will need to buy a All Region DVD player like a Sampo. Sampo has a built in video converter. I would Not suggest getting one of these though.

Get an all region player that has macrovision disabled, and buy a seperate video converter if you need it (if your TV is not multiSystem).

This is where I buy my All Region Devices. http://www.220giftcenter.com/dvd.htm Remember, these are already region free and they have waranties too.

  3. If you buy a cheap made in China DVD player here, you have a good
chance to get a player to play PAL disks and output in NTSC signals.

All my last three cheap DVD players bought here can play PAL DVD
disks and output NTSC signals. In addition, all the three players
can play VCD and SVCD disks. Although I heard the newer Apex player
may have changed. The three players are

    Apex 1500: without any hack.
    Sampo 601: without any hack.
Audiovox ????: hacked from remote controller.

My first and more expensive DVD player, Pioneer ??, only read
PAL disks and output PAL signals. So I can not watch it on NTSC
    TVs.

  4. Ok, thanks

I'm gonna buy a exact same sony 725p for the price twice as more because it is region free online.
    I'm little confused here.

What is Region free exactly. My understanding is this is some sort of code the studios put before releasing the dvd.

My dvds are home made and it is PAL. That means it is just a PAL format So is there a difference between Region free and MultiSystem converter?

Can't i just region free hack north American verison player. So i would save $100? By the way the region free hack for sony 725p doesn't look safe.

Maybe the glossary entry will help: https://www.videohelp.com/glossary#Region%20Coding

Region coding is separate from PAL vs. NTSC except that one or both tend to be used within certain regions.

You may be able to hack a player to play other regions, but you can not hack an NTSC player to play PAL or vice versa, if they don't play it already.

Most all PAL players play both.

Before your next purchase look up models you're considering in the DVD Player database (on the left). Look for info on what they play, including media types/brands, and see if anyone has posted region hacks.

Just don't buy a Sony DVD player. They are notorious for being JUNK when it comes to flexibility. Take you DVD with you to Best Buy or Circuit City (if you're in America) and try an Apex.
    OR....
Visit Their websites and find out exactly the make and model numbers that each store sells. Come back here and go to the DVD Hacks section
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
and see if there is an EASY hack for that player....ie....NO FIRMWARE....just a hack via the Remote Control.

  8. I'm sorry but i want brand name player from sony or pioneer.
As for sony725p i read the review on left side section and it seems it is the most compatible player plus it is a progressive scan.

So even though you can hack the "Region code" but if your player is not Multisystem, then you can't play PAL->NTSC and vice versa, correct?

My home dvds don't have region code (made with dvdWorkshop). Most online shops advertise them as region free player. How do i tell they will just play PAL dvds.
