  1. hi everyone,

    i am trying to capture a clip from my camcorder using virtualdub but it does not work at all. if i use movie maker or studio 8 it works fine.

    i noticed that on studio 8 it has an option to set it to "dv" instead of my video card. if i do that, i was able to capture or preview the clips in video 8.

    is there an option that i need to set in virtual dub so that i can pick up? thanks!

    Well, once you are in the Capture mode, look under Video-->Source, and make sure you have the proper source selected.

  5. yes, that is what i did with studio 8. with studio 8, it defaulted to my ati all-in-one video card and i couldn't capture it but when i change it to dv option, it works.

    is there an option in virtualdub that i can use DV? thanks!

    No, Virtual Dub does not capture in DV. A lot of us wish it does, though. Have you tried DVIO? It is free, and very easy to use.

    I did a search for a problem like mine and I think this is a close enough topic. I tried to capture from dv camera with no luck like tvandang so I went to DVIO. Capture went fine but when I make my avisynth script I get this error when calling up in tmpgenc "Couldn't locate decompressor for fourcc dvsd" and points to my decimate() line. Can anyone help me out please?

    Go to the Tools section at left, check out the Canopus or the Panasonic ones. I believe they both are free.

    Hey Tommyknocker, I installed the canopus codec and I still get the same error, couldnt locate decompressor for fourcc dvsd line 13 which ends up being the decimate after counting all the plugin lines. Here is my script if anyone wants to see it,

    LegalClip()
    Telecide()
    Decimate()
    unfilter(50,50)
    GripCrop(352, 480, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)
    GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize")
    STMedianFilter(8, 32, 0, 0, 8, 32)
    FaeryDust() # or PixieDust()
    mergechroma(blur(1.50))
    mergeluma(blur(0.2))
    # Convolution3d or DCTFilter for extreme worse cases.
    GripBorders()
    LegalClip()

    Anyone got a clue as to help me?
