  1. Hello,

I want to upgrade my system from a 533FSB P4 to a 800MHz P4, and I have to buy new memory. I am planning on buying Corsair XMS4000 because it is 500MHz, and that memory might even last me until Intel rolls out a 1GHz FSB chip (notwithstanding me killing it from OC).

The thing is, I have 1GB now, and just cannot afford 350 bucks for 1GB of that PC4000 so was thinking of going with 2 256 sticks. The most intensive thing I do is back up DVD's, a little video render or conversion, and GAMES. Do you think I can live with this smaller amount of ram, or will it suck compared to what I have now?

I suppose I can add more ram later if need be as I have the Abit IC7 (i875P) already. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  3. The PC4000 is a beast that oc's greta, enjoy it. Meanwhile, a gig is nice and will last but 512mb is still more than enough in gaming and video converting and editing apps. Instead of 2x256mb get one 512mb stick (wha i would do) and buy another when you can afford it (youll miss dual channel in the short term but it shoudnt affect you too badly), if you dont see yourself doing this then 2x256mb is plenty.

  4. I would recommend not buying 256mb sticks but I would recommend 512mb sticks also. Even if that means one at a time.
