  1. Hi,
I am trying to convert a avi file to dvd by using TMPGenc and TMPGenc Author.
Now then, I have read a few of the howto's on this site, and I am a little confused as to which way is best.

For starters' I have extracted the audio from the avi file, by using VDub, and saving as a wav file. Then I opened up TMPGenc and by help of a howto, I changed the settings to what was reccommended. I used the info from this site to setup TMPGenc:
    http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html

That done, I proceeded to start the encoding, by selecting the avi file as video only, and then the wav file as audio, but then the ouput file is now named as a .dvd[m2v + wav].
When that is completed, I am going to use TMPGenc Author to author the dvd.
Buit when I did this before with TMPGenc Author, the dvd [m2v+wav] was loaded, and the built in writing program? burnt the dvd file(s) to the disk.
But I noticed that there was no audio files in the Audio_Ts folder, but then neither are there any in a commercially produced dvd that I have in my DVD drive.

    Advise and or corrections appreciated.

    Thanks

What the heck are you asking here?
Does your final DVD have audio or not?
If it has audio does it sound OK or is there a problem with it?
The AUDIO_TS folder is always empty. It just needs to be there.

Well if you really want to get into the nitty gritty stuff then you have to state exactly what settings you used in TMPGEnc. It doesn't help to point to that guide since it offers a bunch of different options based on your source and we don't even have enough info about the source to know if you did everything correctly assuming you properly followed the TMPGEnc guide.

    The more info the better.

  5. I just want to know really if the way I am doing it, ie extracting the audio first, the using the wav file for audio and video only file to create the .dvd[m2v+wav] file , and then using TMPGenc author and let it do its thing, etc.

    Thanks

It "looks" like you are doing everything right. If you have a DVD burner burn it to an RW disc and check and see if it works !!

Keep reading the forum and you'll learn little things to help with the quality, etc.
