  1. Hi guys,

I am a newbie at doing this and in desparate help. I am trying to burn a DVD for my father of our family reunion, this might be the last time I see him.

I downloaded the video from the camcorder micro mv format using Sony Movie Shaker onto my computer. The camcorder is a PAL format camcorder. Using Movie Shaker I created an Mpeg2 file of the movie, and also an Mpeg version (just in case). I am trying to convert this PAL format MPEG2 file into an NTSC MPEG2 format, and then burn it on DVD burner (Sony DRU-510A). I am not sure how to do this, which software to use for the conversion and burning and what settings I should set on the software for best quality. I managed to use tpmgemc to convert the mpeg file but the quality of the ntsc was awful.

    I have the following software:
    Sonic MyDVD
Dell Movie Studio (roxio videowave movie creator) - horrible

I appreciate anyone's detailed instructions in doing this. I tried once and wasted a DVD, as I got an error when burning onto the DVD.

    Thanks a million!

    detailed instructions in doing this
There are many existing threads using different techniques and programs. Which is probably why your question has gone unanswered. It's unrealistic to expect someone to type out detailed instructions for you. But, the info can be found.

A search (using the box upper-right of this page) will return lots of results to read.

Have a read through and a look into some alternate programs that are mentioned. Make use of the existing Guides and resources available here. Then, if you have a particular question about an aspect or step, post back.

Here's one huge (6 pages at last count) thread as an example: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=160433

One good tip - for this or any future project - is to write to RW disc first and avoid coasters while you are in the learning stages and beyond.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your project.

  3. Hi Gees,

Thanks for the advice. I guess I am so confused about the whole process that I can't figure out anymore. I am stupid when it comes to these things. I did do a lot of reading. But in a lot of the cases, one little part was different, or they mentioned changing some setting which I had no clue how to find or where to look. Which is why I wrote the broad question, in hopes of someone helping me. I will heed your advice and do some searches.

Best of luck. Do not feel afraid or hesitant to come back with those particular questions when you have them. Or to clarify a step you are unsure of.

Try to read through a whole guide, take in what you can and then go back to step one. It may make more sense that way. :c)

You are not stupid. Don't say that. :c) It's a lot to take in. Likewise, it is too much for one person to type out start to finish. Hence the Guides.

Some people do things slightly different ways, so you may see conflicting info from one guide to another or within posts. I'd pick one, go through all steps, try it to hardrive first, next to RW disc, then final.

Soon you'll know where you can make small changes to suit you. But best to get one working disc. Trust me, you'll feel better. :c)

Don't rush. Get a cosy chair, a good drink, take deep breathes and don't forget to sleep and eat. :c)
