After I have installed MainConcept Encoder v1.4 (same thing with V1.3) on my PC, I cannot play some AC3 files anymore. I might play them by opening in PowerDVD, but no other software might.
The file properties shows wrong bit rate and sampling rate, for some AC3 files WMediaPlayer properties shows just one AC3 filter MainConcept Mpeg Splitter. Doesn't show any other AC3 filters.
I don’t know why some AC3 files plays and some doesn’t.
If I uninstall MC Encoder everything goes fine. The problem goes away.
I am using SonicFoundry SoftEncode to convert from WAV to AC3. But even AC3 converted by other encoders are corrupted.
Very strange problem.
Any ideas how to fix it with keeping MC Encoder installed?
I would appreciate for any ideas.

MC has nothing to do with ac3 .. except that the mpeg splitter (splits audio and video) may be sending it to the wrong codec (or no codec) .. you can easly find out by using graphedit .. but for a quick fix .. uninstall powerdvd . reboot , re-install powerdvd (or windvd) ....

BJ_M, thanks for replaying,
I will try to follow your advise, but it is really strange.
I uninstall MC and after I might open any AC3 in WindowsMediaPlayer (even properties shows all available AC3 filters), install it back, does not go, and I see just MC Mpeg splitter as a filter in WMPlayer properties window.
But anyway I wll try to unistall and install PowerDVD. -
Uninstalling-reinstalling the PowerDVD, SoftEncode and SoundForge didn’t help.
And it was true that MC Encoder made those things bad.
After uninstalling MC encoder everything went OK. I seen a few, right AC3 filters in the Windows Media Player properties Filters Available window. If I install encoder back, not good, properties shows just MainConcept MpegSplitter as available filter.
I spent a night and found what the problem was.
Actually the problem was just with those AC3 files which were converted from WAV to AC3 after processing by equalizer and normalizing in SoundForge. If they are not processed in SoundForge but converted by SoftEncode everything was OK.
And finally I’ve found that if the WAV is equalized "too deep" (for exmpl. –25dB at 5kHz) normalization doesn’t go properly and after conversion to AC3 they had a problem by playing in WMedia Player or etc..
And it is nothing wrong with the file, it plays in PowerDVD, they might be authored and burned to DVD, they just don’t play on the audio software players. And again if I uninstall MC Encoder even after converting to AC3, those files "got fixed."
If by using a parametric equalizer it was processed gently, normalization goes properly (you might see that after normalization an audio track gets changed) converted to AC3 file will play with no problems.
Or it might play with no problems if MC Encoder uninstalled.
It is really weird problem but at least I know how to pursue.
