  1. In my never ending quest to find the truth about DVD-R degration I came across a guy on IRC who had just thrown away about 100 of his discs because they no longer were being read by dvd-roms or dvd players.

These were Princo brand. 2X and about a year old.

To quote what he said: "Princo set me up the bomb"

    Princo? Just say no!

  6. Ask him if those 100 dvd-r's had labels on them? That usually screws up the dvd-r.

  7. I asked, they did not have labels on them. They were also burned at 2X. Apparently when he puts in the Princos into his dvd player it says: "Not a valid format". When he puts it into his DVD-ROM computer, it reads it for a second or two then ejects it out, as if it were blank.

He has tested nearly 60 of them, all the same, he has now thrown them away.

I told him to get an account on here so he could post his findings so you should see something soon from him directly.

    Thanks for posts!

Well, all your friend would have had to do was read this forum last year. It was clear back then that the DVD-Rs made by Princo were crap.

  9. What kind of burner and authoring software did he use? I have had a lot of trouble with burning at 2x on those maxell unbranded discs. They would show it right from the start. Don't burn at 2x unless you are using branded media. I have a pioneer 104 and it worked fine with fuji branded, but with maxell unbranded, 30 percent of them useless after 2x, some even bad after 1x. I am now using samsung bealls with complete satisfaction.
