hi guys, im trying to rip an anime DVD (trigun, for the curious), and yet i cant seem to get flask mpeg to recognize the subtitle stream...
and i KNOW its there, i mean come on.. its anime for christs sake. heh
anyway, if i use smart ripper i can go into stream processing, and it sees the sub track there...
with smart ripper i can rip the sub track to a vob file or even a demux it to a seperate file, this is all fine and dandy.. but how do i get the sub track into flask once i've got it seperated..?

Firstly, rip in "File Mode" if you are going to use Flask. DVD Decrypter may be a better ripper for Flask users.

Secondly, get the newer "subtitle fixed" version of Flask 0.6. The original versions of Flask don't work with some subtitles. You can download this from doom9's site: http://www.doom9.net

well, the thing with file mode is that i dont want to have to rip the entire dvd then cut/join ect ect ect...
since its an anime dvd it has like 4 episodes complete with opening/closing credits in between each one (i'd like to skip that).
so instead of ripping all 15 chapters, i wanted to rip 2-5 for episode 1, 7-10 for episode 3, ect...
i know what you were talking about though, because once i fixed my flask to get the one that supports *.ifo's it wouldn't let me select multiple chapters..

You can't have it both ways...

Flask subtitles only work if you go through its IFO parser. For that, you MUST have the VOB files in its original state minus CSS.

I've ripped anime DVDs too...

If the individual episodes are on seperate VOB sets (e.g., R4 Neon Genesis Evangelion Collection 3 onwards), then I just encode each episode as its own MPEG file and author the VCD so that each episode (selectable from a menu) goes to the relevant track.

If the individual episodes are chapters of ONE VOB set (e.g., R4 Neon Genesis Evangelion Collection 1&2 and the Dragonball Z series), then I encode all the episodes as one large MPEG, and use entrypoints to link to the chapters from a menu.

If you just want to rip the relevant chapters from each episode and still have subtitles, you cannot use Flask... You will have to use DVD2AVI/Subrip/Virtualdub to put the subtitles in... This process is probably messier than using Flask...

Remember, you don't have to encode the entire vobset with Flask, you just have to rip it. To encode just the part you want, you can set the mark in and mark out points to the relevant parts of the video.

thanks for all the help, i think i'll just scan through the vob and figure out which range of frames i need to encode, then let flask work its magic.
