  1. I hope someone can help me....I have been trying to backup a movie which is a DVD 9....

I first used DVD Shrink and then burned with nero 6....it gets to 98% and then freezes up.

I also tried burning with ImgTool and the movie will play in a stand alone player but freezes close to the end of the movie.

I have tried ripping with DVD Decrypter to an iso that didnt work...

Does anyone have any suggestions....Im pretty new at this so bear with me....I have read lots of threads and how to's but at this point I am getting confused.

    Any help will be appreciated

Usually it is a sign of a bad disc or poorly made blank disc when you have trouble playing material that was recorded near the outer edge.

I've found that in big batches of blank discs that are supposedly SUPER GREAT discs you still have the occassional odd disc that has read errors near the edge.

In my experiences read errors usually don't start til you hit about 4.2GB unless you are using REALLY crapola brand X media.

So try to keep the total size of your DVD bellow 4.2GB even if it is 4.19GB

Considering that a full DVD is about 4.3GB you really aren't missing much by keeping it at 4.19GB or less.

That should hopefully solve the edge problem.

IF the media is really crapola crap then you might have to keep it below 4.0GB like 3.99GB or less but hopefully you have better media than that.

As for burning I would stick with ImgTool Classic and DVD Decrypter.

  3. FulciLives,

Thanks for the reply....Maybe that is the problem I have a sleeve of DVDr's that are a no brand name...

Also I should use dvd shrink to reduce and then use Imgtool or Decrypter to burn, Is this correct.

    Thanks

  5. I seem to have a similar problem.
When i use DVD-RW (Philips) there is no problem, but when I use Bulkpaq I just canīt go further that the simulation, It tells me it can not do a disc-at-once. So at this moment as I am writing I am compiling again the movie with DVDShrink at 4 GB. Later I will try to burn and tell you how it went

    Cheers,

Yeah that is basically it. Try shrinking to 4.18GB and then do the IMAGE and BURN. After run it through DVDInfoPro and do a READ ERROR test.

  7. I compressed the movie to 3.9GB and still, using Nero6 it just canīt pass the simulation.
i am trying now with Instant CD/DVD. I just hope it wonīt freeze at the end of the movie (1:24:00 of a movie of 1:30:35).waaaaaaaaaaaa

Maybe I should try it with Princo DVD-R? Because my previous packs of Bulkpaq were OK.

    Thx,

    Johny

  8. Ok,

i can confirm one thing, and that the error seems to be of Nero. Because when I burn it with Instant CD/DVD there is no problem at all.
Strangly if I use dvdshrink and the instantCD/DVD it tries to compact it again. So it seems that I just have to be sure that the file is at 99% when using dvdshrink.

    Anybody can confirm that also?

Many thx to all the ideas.

i am a happy person now

AS I said in my first post in this thread you should really be using the ImgTool Classic / DVD Decryter method.

Both are FREEWARE programs and work about 99.99% flawlessly.

NERO is known to have DVD burning issues.

I see this thread 30 times a week. It's bad media. Confirm it by using your shrink program with a target of 3.5 GB, and I bet it won't freeze. The disks are worthless anyway, you have nothing to lose......I'm sure they will degrade over time to be un-readable.....you may have a year, you may only have 3 months :P

2nd when you use IMgTool does that burn it to the disk or do you make an image and then burn it using decrypter...

I have never had a DVD recording failure after over 200 burns using TDK and Memorex DVD+R 4X media, even at the DVDShrink optimal size of 4.4GB+. I capture via Dazzle DVCII, I use DVDShrink 3 Beta 5 for DVD copying, Nero 5.5 for burning, TmpGenc Authoring, ASPI 4.60(1021), NEC ND-1100A 4x DVD+R burner. I do split my capture files using TWNH 1958 and keep them under 4GB due to FAT32 limitations, but still max out the DVD at 4.4GB+ by joining them in TmpGenc Author. Don't waste your money on El Cheapo DVD media, it isn't worth the head and heartache. Stick with TDK, Memorex, Ricoh, Fuji media...there are others that are good, I can only speak for these.

ImgTool Classic just creates an ISO IMAGE file.
You then BURN that ISO IMAGE file with DVD Decrypter.
