I have never use a single DVDXCOPY program yet. but i heard it suppose to be the best around. There seems to be quite a few, but which is the best? Is it better than DVD Shrink?

DVD X Copy was the original, 2 disk program. Great if you wanted full original quality, bad cause it used 2 disks. DVD X COPY Express, idoit proof to a point. Now does movie only or full disk. Has trouble with episode disks, wants to find the largest file of show only. DVD X Copy Platinum gives you more control much like DVD Shrink. I have all, but I stay with the Shrink. I also have DVD2One and used it early on, but like DVD Shrinks interface much better.

I agree with jdizzy40, although you could say ifoedit was the first split & strip program. The new shrink 3.0 beta 5 is great. What it does not allow you to do is split to 2 disks and keep a menu. Best of all, it is free. DVD X Copy platinum cost $100+ I think. Not worth it. Other things to research: DVDFab, and DVDClone. Oh, and Pinacle Instant Copy. And there are others....

DVD Shrink is better than most DVDXCOPY? I wonder why DVD Shrink is FREE? I haven't use DVD Shrink for a long time now, is it capable of spliting DVD's into 2 disc for the exact quality? if i'm correct the answear should be no.

All you have to do is use the start/end chapter function in reauthor mode and copy the files to your hard drive. Of course you have to do this twice, one time for each disk and then just burn the two parts to disks. Tha'ts how I do it if I want full quality without any compression.

Why is DVDXCOPY is so ***** expensive while DVDshrink is just as good...is FREE? It doesn't make any sense at all.

  9. If you dont want to lose any resolution at all use DVDXCOPY but you will have to split most movies to two disc's. You cant get better quality then this though.

I have a 65" HDTV and dont want to lose any quality, on a smaller TV you wont notice any difference if you compress it but on a 65" inch you will, ,

I also use DVDSHRINK when the movies is close to 4.4gigs or under 6gigs, that way I wont lose any too much, Its the only other program I need it has everything you need, without spending a dime.

DVD X COPY put their own splash screen onto every disc you make..
And If your backup fails..you cannot copy the backup you made with DVD X COPY directly..That is -you need a workaround for this program
    1. If your backup gets fried
    2. If you need more than one backup (one for the summer house or car, perhaps)

Thats why even if we bought DVD X COPY, we're using
programs with better options for doinmg exactly the same thing

    EG
    DVD SHRINK
    or DVD FAB

so..all DVDXCOPY won't compress the DVD9's to fit onto a single DVD-R? if it's DVD9, the only option with DVDXCOPY is to put it into a 2 disc?

An $80 programs that doesn't even have the compress to fit feature on a single DVD-R...I hope they know that 99% of DVD's out there are DVD-9. I hate 2 disc sets.

    DVDXpress is capable of compressing?

DVDXCopy Platinum version has compression for a DVD 9 to a DVD 5. This version does it all. But for $100 + I think it was $110 at best buy! Those historians here will know that Derrow, the writer of ifoedit, went to work at 321 studios, the marketer of x copy. Whether he is still there, I do not know. The new DVD Shrink can do almost everything DVDXCopy can and no warning or splash screens. I totally love it. I both shrink and split depending on the material. Why is it free? ddlooping, do you have an answer? I don't even think there is a link to donate $$ on there web site. I would be happy to donate if there was a way.

  15. People have different reasons as to why they develop software. Some are out to make money, others don't care about money and just program as a hobby and let people use their software. There are LOTS of freeware programs out there that are better than the retail equivilant. Why the authors choose not to make money is unknown. Ifoedit and dvddecrypter are free and they are probably the best and most used dvd tools out there.

hmm..?? Just played around with DVDXCOPY Xpress, and it does have compress to fit to 1 DVD-R, when it compress a DVD-9, does it automatic compress it to the nearest DVD-R 4.3gig size? and how reliable is the DVDxcopy xpress burning software? also, i couldn't find a way to spit a DVD-9 into 2 DVD-R.

I used the DVDXCopy burn engine for a while. It worked okay.

XCopy Xpress won't splity a DVD-9 into 2 DVD-5's. The original DVDXCopy or XCopy Platinum will do that.

  20. In my opinion DVD X Copy Platinum is the easies DVD backup utility. Does absolutely everything you need with the best quality I have seen so far and absolutely fastest tools on the market. The speed of converting dvd-9 to dvd-r is unbelievable. (I am using ver 3.2.0) Nothing can touch the speed of whole process. The other tools to use id DVD Shrink, ifoedit and dvddecrypter. I tried CloneDVD with anydvd (absolutely shit) Nero 6 even bigger shit. None of the DVD-R played in any standalone dvd. With the DVD X Copy and/or dvddecrypter (iso mode) every single dvd-r plays without any error.

NO you cannot change the name of the disc

THESE DVD X COPY programs are dumbed down and only work with the original HOLLYWOOD disc in the drive and a R in the wings (or a second drive)..
THERE ARE NO ADVANCED options for renaming discs or even saving the RIPPED and SHRUNKEN backup as DVD X COPY is designed to erease these files after a successful burn....

All in all..If you're on this site you use the better program SHRINK unless you encounter the odd title it cannot handle

The cost of DVD X COPY just makes it even more unattractive

  26. If you leave XPRESS open, and find the VIDEO TS files it made, you can burn with NERO. NERO will let you name the disc whatever you want. I always convert with XPRESS and burn with NERO. No problems yet.

I keep trying to put in a name for the disk in Nero. But after it's burned the disk is always named "New".

I keep trying to put in a name for the disk in Nero. But after it's burned the disk is always named "New".
This would've worked with NERO 5xxx but 6.0 has a bug that the NAME typed is reverted to MY DISC or NEW
even when you copy a disc ! It calls the copy "NEW" please update NERO to .00023 or HIGHER..this fixes that! (and is a free upgrade to 6)

  29. I found that upgrading my NERO 5.5 to a slightly newer version 5.5.10.42 allowed me to change the name of my DVD. The older one changed it back to "NEW"

I tried Nero 6 but had too many problems with it- don't know if it would let me name the disk because it never finished burning a disk. I've used 5.5.10.50 and just updated to 5.5.10.54 and it still says "new".
