Ive been trying to update my collection of tv eps an putting em on dvd.
When needed, ive been taking these TV ep files an running em thru vdub, then tmpge, an burning onto dvdr via Mydvd.
but sometimes i;ll get lucky an the file will already be an mpeg, so now hours of encodeing!
but every now an then ive been running up on files that say they arent but like 440Mb , but they;ll take up over half a dvd for just 1 file,
like 3/4 the disc,
when ive took the same size files [440Mb] an fit up tp 4 or 5 eps onto 1dvdr, [4.7gbdvdr]
From what i can figure whomever had these files before i got em,, had them formatted this way , for there own purpose.Whatever that may be?
Maybe they just wanted 1 ep per dvd, who knows?
but my question is ,
'Is there anyway to like re-format the file to where it onl;y takes up normal space like the other 440mb files?
i dont mean to really shrink it, [i dont think]
I dont mind keeping the file that size,[440mb]
i just dont want it eating so much space on the dvd,,
Im still new at all this dvd burning stuff, but with Mydvd it will show you how much space is left for you to add stuff etc. kinda likea lil pie graph thingy.
and this is the 2nd or 3rd time ive ran across files that eay such a big chunk of the dvd writing space. an I ended up deleteing them ,, an downloading the same episode from a different user or something.
thats ended up into alot of dl'ing time,
so I was just wondering if there was a better way,
maybe making the mpeg file to avi, then running it thru vdub,an tmpge to VCD, but then burn it to a dvd
sheww,, are ya confused yet?
basiclly thats what im doing , is burning like 4 or 5 eps that are in like vcd mode onto 1dvdr,,
thanks ,, any suggestion would help

its possible that the video is an avi (divx) file. divx is a highly compressed video that usually has no quality loss from a larger sized mpeg. Since you are using tmpgenc. when you go to do the conversion, set the final video size to whatever size you want in the settings and +/- a few meg, you should be Ok.
NOw the catch, the video will more than likely look bad. Basically, the original file was say 1gig, however through compression, it scrunchs down to 440, when you convert the file will look (actually a little worse since it is a lossy compression) like a 440mb file and not the original 1gig.
There is a guide on this site that can help with the final quality, basically putting borders around the picture. Do a guide search for "low rez divx". The guide has a picture of one of the survivor episodes on it. -
Ooooh. Dude, I really don't give a crap about you "DLing" files of which were some one elses before you got em. That's Ok and cool with me, but be carefull about talking about warez here on this site. I'm sure you were just talking about DLing un copyrighted stuff, but I would ratehr you hear it from me that get spanked by a site "DoGooder".
Just the mention of downloading a DVIX file seems to provoke evil responses from many here, even if the fact that it is copyrighted has not been established.
Be Cautious about how you word things. I'm just looking out for ya.
Sorry, I really didn't understand your problem, so I can't help. -
I don't know about the burning app you have been using, but some write extra data if you are only burning a small file. I know Nero will increase the size to greater than 1 Gig no matter how small your file was if you have the feature turned on. This is to give better compliance with standalones which expect to see a full disk not a nearly empty one.
If your files are 400MHz, you should be able to fit 10 on a DVDR, but if you try and burn just one file you'll probably find that it takes up nearly a quarter of the disk. -
Try reading the help file in MYDVD. I think it says that if a 'clip' doesn't meet it's strict DVD Compliant Standards the clip will be 're-encoded' using it's "Best" setting. If your file is of the wrong framesize or bitrate or both, then maybe it's being re-encoded, ie taking up more space.
I always try to know exactly what my clips are before getting to that step. Many available programs have the 'file information' feature. I generally use Ulead VideoStudio V6. Anyway, find out the framesize, bitrate, and audio specs for your clips, read the help file in MYDVD, and you may find your answer.
Good luck.
