  1. hey

i downloaded a live Zwan concert video and am having some major issues with it. After about 14 seconds of playing, the video completely freezes, while the audio continues. I tried skipping forward and letting it play for a bit, but nothing changes. The audio moves ahead, but the video stays on the frozen frame from the beginning. After reading the forums for awhile, I tried loading the AVI into virtual dub, and it found no bad frames. Then, I loaded VDub mp3 something or other, which will check for Video Freezes, and it said that there were none, and that all frames where good. I have tried encoding in TMPGenc, but it freezes in exactly the same spot. Lastly, I loaded the file into an AVI fixer (Video Fixer, i believe it was called), and it said that it fixed all errors in my video, but even the new file froze at 14 seconds. If anyone has ANY ideas on how i could salvage this file before I delete it, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I am out of ideas on finding out what is wrong with this video file, and would love some help.

    Thanks

Sure. Go back to Virtual Dub. Delete the frame at the spot that causes the freeze. Save the video under a new filename.
    Hello.

  3. hmm...i tried going through and determining which exactly is the frame that causes the problem, and deleted it, but still came up with the video freezing in virtual dub. then, just for the hell of it, i ended up deleting about the first 30 seconds of the video. this gave me a glimmer of hope, in that i was no longer stuck on the same frame as before, but rather a new frame...however, i am still in the same position as before with the video not even playing at all (although on a different frame) and the audio moving ahead. thanks for the super quick reply though. still trying!

Interesting. Try GSpot, and make sure you have the have the proper codec to play your file. Also, do you know how to use AviSynth?
    Hello.

  5. I loaded the AVI into GSpot and it says that I have exactly the right codecs for the file. I've never used AVISynth before....but im checkin it out right now to see what we've got to work with.

    thanks again

  6. Tommyknocker has already advised you to use gSpot - and that's what I'd recommend.

This is because I think this is exactly what happened to me when I tried to play some avi files that were - I think - DivX 5.05, but I only had 5.03 or something on my system.

I updated the DivX codec to ther latest version, and the videos played all the way through fine.

I suspect that's what your problem is.

    cheers,

  7. SonnyC79 - we posted at the same time.

I'd still check that you have the most up-to-date codec - if the file is DivX, I think it's up to 5.1 now.

It just sounds so similar to what I experienced with the older DivX 5.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.
