  1. There have been a number of posts for users having problems playing dvd recorded material from dvd recorders like the panasonic E-20.

Basically, the problem has to do with how the panasonic configures the dvdr.

The easy fix that I have been using is:

    1. Record the material onto a dvd (cheapo, dvdrw, dvdram, etc), which will be the source file
    2. rip the dvdr to your harddrive using dvddecrypter (I personally mere the VOB files)
    3. Use TMPGENC's dvd author to reauthor the video. With this software, you can make motion menus, etc. and "pretty" up the dvd
    4. After reauthoring (about 2-3 hour process on a 1.2 gig machine), use nero express or burning program to burn to dvdr

I hope this helps out all the folks that bought a panny that cannot view their material on a number of dvd players.

  2. Wouldn't it be a lot less hassle and a ton faster just to record to a cheap DVD-R then use DVDshrink? I have the Panasonic E50 and every disc I have recorded plays fine on my three players at home. Maybe the E20 is not finalizing the disc (just a thought).

  3. macleod,
I'm going to try your method in a few days. I have a DMR-HS2 and the DVD-R's I create with it play on everything I have except my old Apex. I think somebody else mentioned using TMPGEnc DVD Author for this problem as well (lordsmurf perhaps?)

When you run it through DVDShrink and it doesn't actually have to do any compressing or transcoding then all it does is somehow "fix" any errors which, if I'm not mistaken, is basically the same as loading up the IFO file in IFOEdit and clicking on GET VTS SECTORS

So yeah re-authoring with something like TMPGEnc DVD Author is a nice step since you can make a nice custom menu with cutom chapters etc. but really I think if you want simple then IFOEdit is all you really need.

    P.S.
A lot of people also use DVD-RAM first then import to the computer and author with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Saves wasting blank DVD discs since you can use a DVD-RAM disc over and over and over ...

  5. I would have hoped that dvdshrink would have fixed my errors. I used tdvdshrink, dvd2one, dvdxcopy, etc. and they resulted in a bad play on my apex 1100w, which plays just about everything. The dvdr's were finalized on the e-20 and they do play in 1 or 2 of the players (blaupunkt me-1) that I own, but for the majority that I tried my stuff on, it failed miserably.

If you want a sure fire way of having it play on dvd players, tmpgenc dvdauthor is the way to go.

  6. This is exactly the process I now use and it is awesome!! Record from my VHS tapes to my Panasonic DMR-E20 standalone. Finalize it and then load the file into my computer and auther it with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Thanks everyone for help and all your input!!! My dvd's look great!

I have just one last problem/question (saw that coming, huh?): I would like to have sound on my menus. I am using cool .jpg images I've created specifically for these menus, but someone mentioned some process to get sound to them. Can some outline detail on doing this? Either pulling sound from the dvd I burn, or load it in from a cd would be cool.

    Again, all help is appreciated!!!

    Peace-
    JP

Whats the point of this? If you made it, it should copy just fine with windows explorer to your HD.

  8. Now that you mention it, you can probably just import the videos into TMPGEnc DVD Author directly from the DVD.
