  1. I have a set of episodic DVDs in PAL (the old UK tv series The Professionals, which has been released on DVD only in the UK). How, if at all, can I back these DVDs up to NTSC? I've seen a few posts on converting movies, but none on converting episodes.

Well the THREAD that Phil gave you is my usual answer but with an EPISODE type DVD it is just a wee bit more tricky ... though not much.

Usually each Episode is given it's own set of VOB files for instance EPISODE ONE might be VTS_02_00 thru VTS_02_03 and EPISODE TWO might be VTS_03_00 thru VTS_03_03 etc.

Each title set will have a BUP file and a IFO file along with however many parts there are too ... for instance my example has 4 parts each for EPISODE ONE and TWO.

Best thing would probably be to RIP the ENTIRE DVD using DVD DECRYPTER in FILE MODE ---> SELECT ALL FILES.

Then you can run each title set through DVD2AVI to see which each one is ... or you could use IFOEdit or even the newest BETA version of DVDShrink.

Then convert each TITLE SET separately. As if each one is a different movie. Then use an AUTHORING program to select which episodes you want since you can of course put more than one on your final DVD-R

    Hope that all makes sense.

    P.S.
On some EPISODE type DVD discs the EPISODES are all in one big TITLE SET in which case you can either convert it like that OR I would load the D2V info ViurtualDubMod and trim out everything but the EPISODE you want to do then use the SCRIPT EDITOR to get the TRIM frames set and import that into your AviSynth AVS script. This way you can do each EPISODE as a seperate entity.

  3. Thanks for your help. The process seems a bit daunting to me at this point - my grasp of the VOB/IFO/titleset alteration process (authoring, I suppose) is still a bit shaky - but when I get a little more competent at regular old NTSC stuff I'll give it a go.
