  1. I am hoping that someone here could help me...I just bought the Optorite DD0203 External but for some reason it won't let me install it onto my computer...its says in the book that after I run SETUP.EXE and reboot there should be a new drive disk added...but there isn't...and then it says if this didn't work then I could refer to the Partition to the USB2.0 External Hard Disk chapter...I tried both methods there and either of them worked...can someone please help me?
    Thanks

    hi Hooo3,
if you goto control panel, system, hardware, device manager, click on dvd/cd-rom drives it should tell you the make and model. mine says optorite dvd rw ddo2o3. your burning software should also tell you the make and model. optionally you can d/l something like dvdinfopro and it will give you all kinds of info on your drive and the burning media it supports. hope this helps.

As far as I know, Optorite doesn't sell the external version of DD0203, what you got is just an internal drive plus a third-party external enclosure. If you open the enclosure, you should find the model # label on the internal drive. You mentioned that you only had USB 1.1 in another thread, if this is true, then you should get a USB 2.0 IDE card before using the DVD burner. The reason is that the data transfer rate for USB 1.1 is only around 0.9MBPS which is only about 0.67X of DVD burning speed. It'll take you at least 90 minutes to burn a full DVD disc with a USB 1.1 connection.

If you got an internal drive like Synergy stated you might be better off to take the burner out of the external enclosure and mount it as an internal drive ie on your second controller. Hope this helps and hope you get it working. Keep us informed to your sucess.
