  1. I'm trying to convert and imovie .mov to VCD. i've tried converting using toast 5.1.4 VCD option then burning. Plays fine on quicktime. Burnt VCD plays fine on VLC. out of sync on DVD player. Exported .mov to DV quality .mov then encoded using ffmpegx. resulting mpeg1 file plays fine thru quicktime. I then tried various methods of burning it to VCD: toast mpeg conversion, MissingMediaBurner mpeg to VCD, created a .bin/.cue file and burnt the .bin file with Toast. Everytime the resulting VCD plays fine in VLC on my computer but is out of sync on my DVD player. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong? Is it my DVD player? Is it natural for the sync to vary between DVD players? I'm trying to make a VCD of a school play that i want to give to parents therefore want to create a VCD that will work on many DVD players. Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

Same problem, solved by demux+mux with tmpgenc.

I don't know if there's any mac program than do it, same trying with mmt and vcdgear with no results.

    For me, it works:

    1. encode with ffmpegx
    2. demux + mux with tmpgenc
    3. bin/cue with vcd builder
    4. burn

  3. You could try to demux and remux with ffmpegX.

Sorry, I've checked and the demux+mux with ffmpegx generates another final mpeg1 with artifacts and desync video+audio, not when I demux+mux with tmpgenc.

  5. yeah I tried demux+remux with ffmpegX as well but still out of sync. I'm new to all this but i assume i'm just pulling two things apart and sticking them back together the same way hence still out of sync. I'm not adjusting one forward or backward. Am i missing something? the only place i see to adjust sync is in the options section of the encoding process.

1/ Have you used mpeg2enc or ffmpeg engine to encode the mpeg1?
2/ Can you run this useful test: try to re-encode by using "fast VCD" and "split in 2 chunks" (not "Auto" chunks) and play the 1st chunk. Is the offsync the same?

Check without reencode to split in 2 chunck from mpeg1, with the Author button. No luck.

    I'll check to re-encode later.

  9. Without re-encoding it can't work, the process is not the same. You must test by re-encoding and selecting "Split in 2 chunks" (ffmpeg engine).

  10. i tried re-encoding and spliting in two chunks then playing just the first chunk. same problem. the mpeg1 plays fine on my computer, the VCD plays fine on my computer but on my DVD player its still out of sync by the same amount. However i could only re-encode using mpeg2enc. when i try to encode using ffmpeg i get "unknown format" in the process window. my source is an imovie exported to DV quality Quicktime .mov.

  11. Could you try to check with some other file then, as the test I was talking for is only applicable to ffmpeg encoding with "Split to 2 chunks".

Same problem with avi. re-encoded with ffmpeg engine and no sync another time.

  13. You used "Split in 2 chunks" and tried to playing the 1st out of 2 chunks, right?
