  1. Which program is better? Need opinions from those that have used these programs.

    thanks

  2. DVD Shrink is free - which may be a consideration !

DVD2ONE works well for me, although DVD Shrink gives you a lot more options and control over the final outcome. Some say the quality is better on DVD Shrink, but that is highly subjective and a blind test I carried out a little while ago demonstrated most people couldn't reliably tell the difference.

Both are fast, DVD Shrink decrypts as well, although if you're after a point and click solution, DVD2ONE is very good IME of filling a disc to the rim when needing to transcode and strip streams.

I've converted over 200 DVD's and my two cents is that DVD2ONE produces consistantly sharper image quality than DVD Shrink even you use deep analysis in DVD Shrink on the same disk with the options. DVD Shrink is still a very good program.

  4. I've backed up over 200 as well and I pretty much only use DVDshrink. Ocassionaly I get DVDshrink output that is really crappy but it is not always a function of compression percent i.e. some 95% movies suck where 70% movies look perfect. DVD2one is not pefect either. I just like being able to cut beginning and ending credits.

I use DVD Shrink and my brother used DVD2One. He recently started using DVD Shrink and says he likes DVD Shrink better. I also like DVD Shrink better. probably a matter of personal taste. Try both and see what your personal favorite is. Hope this helps.

  6. DVD Shrink rules. The only thing DVD2ONE does better is compress to a consistent file size. The seamless joining function is a nice addition too.
Still, for built in decryption and options, DVDSHRINK is the better program

  7. In my opinion DVD2ONE is far more reliable, you only have to look at the posts over the last couple of months to see how many people have complained about DVD SHRINK(This does'nt work that does'nt work etc) of course lots of people complain about Nero as well.

I prefer using DVD2ONE if I'm doing a FULL DISK backup or a MOVIE only backup.

I do find DVDShrink helpfull if you want to keep the menu but get rid of some things ... for instance if you have a dual layer disc with a fullscreen and widescreen version of the movie you can often use DVD Shrink to "get rid of" the fullscreen version using the STILL IMAGE thing and end up with a disc that will fit on a single DVD-R without further processing.

It's also helpful for getting rid of the main movie the same way ... this way you can make a backup that has all of the extras and the menu so you can select them without having to compress the extras.

You can make another DVD of just the movie using DVDShrink or DVD2ONE etc.

  9. There is only one way to find which program is better. Try them both like tigerman8u says and find out what your favorite is. I prefer DVD2ONE, but DVDSHRINK is also a good program and FREE.

  10. For control DVDshrink is better but for compression DVD2one is better.
I got tired of playing with things and now use DVD2one in movie only 100% of the time.

I think when DVDshrink 4.0 comes out I may change my mind.

  11. Hi all.

    - Download and install the trial version of DVD2One.
    - Download and install DVD Shrink v3.0 beta 5.
    - Get your copy of the "Matrix Reloaded".

    - Use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD so you can use it with DVD2One.
    - Use DVD2One in "Constant" mode (what all DVD2One users have used to backup the Matrix and said the results were perfect; view other thread here somewhere), movie-only; keep the main audio and subtitle streams.
    - Backup!

    - Use DVD Shrink "Re-author" mode; use "Still Pictures" on the end-credits (guides: http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-v3beta5.php and http://www.dvdshrink.info/mixed-compressions.php).
    - Select the main audio and subtitle streams.
    - Choose "Analysis" (will take about 35 minutes depending on your system; a bit longer than having to use DVD Decrypter).
    - Backup!

    Compare the two.

I can give you a clue though: the first fight scene, when Trinity makes a phone call and get "digitized".
Play it in slow-mo to enhance the difference in quality.
