  1. Hi,

I spend quite a bit of time editing holiday videos and now have the intention of putting them onto DVD with lots of "extras" like slideshows etc..

I have done a couple using Studio 8 which uses DV Type 2 as the default for editing before conversion but in MSPro7 I can choose between DV Type 1 or Type 2.

There is nothing to say what the difference is but is one more suited for conversion to MPEG2 than the other?

    Thanks

If your editing app and encoder is happy with, thats all that matters.

  3. Microsoft says - basically - this:

"For video capture, where maximum throughput is crucial, it is better to use a type-1 file, because type-2 files carry redundant audio data."

"(The video stream still has the audio data. The audio is simply hidden by labeling the stream as video.)"

"Also, writing a type-2 file requires some additional processor time to split the interleaved stream."

    So...

    1. Type 1 requires slightly less processor power because there's only one audio stream.

    2. Type 2 requires a little more processing power, but there's a redundant audio stream, which can be helpful when using hardware "real-time" PCI cards.
