  1. Hi, I have a few .avi files which i have converted to mpg using TMPGEnc. The problem is when i play them back the tracker bar ends too early as if the video is finished, but it still keeps playing. eg, my original file is 1hr 40, but after conversion displays as 1hr 31.This has only happened on a few files. Will this be a problem when burning as an XVCD, and will it play still in a DVD player with VCD support. Also is there any way in which i can resolve this from happening? Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Dean.

  2. Have you tried to demultiplex and multiplex the files? This sometimes fixes strange things!

  3. there's also MPEGcorrector to try and fix the file.

    Also, it may be worth checking the original avi's for bad frames etc.. (you can do this in VirtualDub or various other avi-fixers - see tools section).

    Try and make sure your avi's are in good condition before you encode them.

    cheers,

  4. Hi, I've tried the demultiplex and multiplex tool but that didn't work, it just made the files cut off at the displayed time which meant the rest of the video was lost. What sort of thing would i need to do in VirtualDub if i was to try and correct the original avi?

    thanks.

  5. In VirtualDub, load your video file in, then click

    Video->Scan video stream for errors.

    I'm not an expert on repairing avi's if they do have problems.

    Try a forum search for repair avi.

    There seem to be a lot of topics about this.

  7. Just tried VirtualDub, no bad frames were found so its all good. Also i tried mpeg corrector to try and repair the encoded file but it still came out the same, im thinking maybe it will be ok if i burn it. But if i try and link several files together that are encoded the same i get an error with the one thats displaying the wrong length. This is really annoying me now, lol.

  8. You could try one more thing. Run the mpeg file through a mpeg-joining program, but without joining anything. This has corrected some of my mpeg's, especially mpeg's that won't let you do searching etc. (Like you set the time slider in wmp, and it just jumps back again.)

    I usually get that problem with ASFs. Infact I always have that problem with ASFs, and if I rename them, it solves the problem.

    Its a pity nobody has made a program which can (properly) repair damaged mpeg files. I have yet to find ones that have worked when i needed them (vcdgear doesn't, and that other mpgcorrector or whatever its called doesn't jack - except screw up the file)
