Help copying a 6.9 gig data dvd

I have a friend that needs to make a backup copy of a very $$$ program he's bought, but the dvd's are 6.9 gigs. Since regular dvd's only store 4.7 gigs...he needs help on how to copy them.

I know there are plenty of programs for shrinking movie dvd's, but never heard of one for data dvd's....help appreciated.

zip, rar, ace or 7-zip some or all of it ! (ie: use a DATA compression software)
or split to 2 DVDs

Ok, so there's no program out there that will copy the oversized dvd to a regular dvd then?

How do you split one large dvd into 2?
