  1. Hello

I just got done with converting a large divx avi to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc and it worked fine, and after I burned it on a disc and it plays back fine too.

I tried to convert another divx to MPEG2 again, but this time, even though the file is 4 MB smaller then the last avi, it says I would be 131 % capacity for my DVD.

Why the huge difference? The movie that it says would be too big is even 40 minutes shorter? I dont get it. Is there something I have to do to it?

Your second file likely has MP3 audio encoded using a variable bitrate (VBR). If you open the file with Virtualdub you will see a pop-up VBR warning. Goldwave can extract the audio to a wav file and you can use the wav as the audio source for TMPGEnc. Just load the avi into Goldwave then save.

BTW, the size of the avi does not affect the size of the mpeg, only the time and the bitrate.

  3. Thanks. I'll try that. I did get that VBR error in virtualdub, but I didnt know what it meant.
