  1. I've got a few DVDs of footage from our videographer. The discs are all DVD+RW and they aren't authored. After inserting the disc, there is a tiny picture that I can select and then the video begins.

I want to edit these DVDs. They all have multiple VOBs. How should I pull the VOBs off each disc and join it? What program should I use? Once I do that, I'll have an MPG file right? What program can I use to edit that? I just want to do simple things like remove certains scenes..

I can figure out how to Author the disc once I have the edited files.. I just don't know how to begin editing them.

    Thanks!

I have had the same issues, where I wanted to edit DVD-Rs given to me, that weren't properly edited.

What you have to do first is rip the DVD to a Mpeg2 file. Then you can do your editing in the program of your choice. What I use to rip the DVD to an Mpeg is TMPGEnc DVD Author. If anyone knows of a better program for ripping a DVD to an Mpeg file, I would be happy to know about it as well, but it works great for me.

  3. Here's what I ended up doing after mixing and matching things from several threads here.. one post by txpharoah really helped out..

    1. With the DVD-R in the drive, I opened up DVD-Lab and dragged the VTS_01_1.VOB file into the DVD-Lab Asset Bin. I was prompted with some options and chose to JOIN all the VOBs together and not demultiplex and ended up with a file called 'JOINED.VOB'.

    2. Then I renamed the joined VOB to a .MPG extension (file is now JOINED.MPG) and used the Simple De-multiplex tab in the MPEG Tools section of TMPGEnc Plus to end up with 2 files: JOINED.m2v, and JOINED.ac3

    3. I used BeSweet to convert the ac3 file to an mp2 file -> JOINED.mp2

    4. I used the Simple Multiplex tab in the MPEG Tools section of TMPGEnc Plus to multiplex JOINED.m2v and JOINED.mp2 into JOINEDNEW.mpg

    5. I then used the Merge & Cut tab in the MPEG Tools section of TMPGEnc Plus to cut portions out and then output the results to a file called JOINEDNEWCUT.mpg.

    6. Now that I had edited the movie I imported JOINEDNEWCUT.mpg into DVD-Lab to author the new DVD.

It has worked great so far.. I hope this helps someone out..

I don't see any option in TMPGEnc DVD author to do this. Can you give a few details? Thanks. I am trying to convert vob files that are on my hard drive to Mpeg2.
