  1. I have XP Home and Video Studio 6.0. In trying to render video for later DVDR burning I keep getting "screeching" or "squealing" noise in the over layed sound track. Sometimes occurs when I use a transition effect between sceens. I have rendered three different files and get the same annoying sound imperfections at different places on the video. Never the same place and some files have it worse than others. Has anybody had this problem and do you have any fix for it?

I have not heard of it before, but I would framserve it from VS 6 to TMPGEnc, using the Ulead Video Server, and use the overlay track as input audio in TMPGEnc.

375IO, are you using an mp3 file for your audio?

I had this problem come up way back with VideoStudio 4, so I converted the mp3 to wav and the problem never came up again. I currently use VS6 and VS7 and I never use mp3 for audio, always wav and have not had an audio chirping problem since.

  4. I sometimes use MP3 and sometimes a music CD. In this particular case I am doing a wedding video for a family member that plays in a band that has produced their own CDs. Therefore to avoid copywrite issues, I was using their CD for back ground music. The Churping noise you describe sounds like the same issue though. I apparently have the same issue with the WAV.

I might add that I purchased a new computer last year in hopes of making the video creation process faster and easier. It is faster, but the quality isn't as good. I may simply have to go back to the old machine and start again. The newest machine is an HP772C which has 120GB drive, 512 RAM, and I believe 2.2Ghz Pentium. The old is an HP 900 Mghz, 60 GB drive and 256 RAM. I just hate going back to the old machine.

If you are using a .wav and still get chirping I don't have any good solution other than suggest you make sure you have the latest patches from Ulead installed on your machine.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help. I had a chirping problem with VS7 even with a .wav file for the audio. At each and every transition the audio would cut in and out but their update patch fixed the problem.

  6. If you experience so-called "chirping" audio, then please check your digital camcorder.

If you used a MiniDV or Digital 8 camcorder to acquire your video, check to see whether the camcorder was set to record in 12-bit audio mode (not good) or 16-bit audio mode (good).

If you discover your camcorder was set to record in 12-Bit mode, then adjust your camcorder to record in 16-Bit mode.

The quality of the audio will be better.

When captured by computer software, the resulting DV .avi file - with it's 16-Bit audio - will not likely suffer from the so-called "chirping" noises described in this thread.

If your camcorder recorded your source video in 12-Bit mode, then earlier versions of VideoStudio computer software will attempt to write the file as a 16-Bit file.

Usually, the 12-Bit source tape will result in 32khz sampling rate while the 16-Bit source tape will result in 48khz sampling rate.

If you have version 7.0 of VideoStudio, it can handle 12-Bit audio.

You'll note there's a special setting for that.

Even so - it's always better to work with 16-Bit audio whenever possible.
