  1. Recently I have been having troubles with my Pioneer DVR-105 in that it will once burn once, then after you try to burn again it says "Power Calibration Error". If I turn it off (its in an external housing) and back on then it works fine again for one burn. Very annoying when I have to keep switching it off and on. I have used a few DVD burning programs and the same thing so I know its not that. I have also removed the drivers and reinstalled and still the same thing. Any ideas????

'Power Calibration Errors' are usually a media issue, but your problem sounds more like overheating. Does your external housing have a fan and sufficient ventalation? You might try running it with the cover off or improving the fan, maybe opening up the ventalation slots or relocating the drive to a cooler area. DVD burners produce a lot of heat.

  3. In this case it is not the media since the same disk that gave the error will burn fine when I turn the unit off and on. I am using Ritek G04's which I have been using all along. As for the case, it is a Lacie model that does not have a fan but I have burned 1000+ DVD's with it without troubles. I will try mounting it inside the PC and not use the case to see if that helps since I hardly use it with my laptop anyone. Could be just getting ready to die from use, thoughts anyone?

If you have used it thet much, it sounds a little more likely. I had a CD burner that died a couple of years ago that also gave that error. I guess as long as it gives that error and doesn't give you a coaster you may get a little more use out of it.
