  1. Help!!

I have been using TDK and Imitation DVD+R discs. I have been using DVD Decrytor, DVD2one and Nero 6+ to backup my movie files. I have been getting sporadic results on whether the discs will play in my RCA 5220p dvd settop player. The discs wll play fine in my GE 1101p and Sylvania DVL500A settop players. I cannot figure out if it is time to replace the RCA players(which are five years old) or if it is the burner, media or software programs which I am using. Since the problem does not happen with all discs, I do not know where the problem lies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't used the Imation discs, but I've used TDK 4x, Maxell 2.4 & 4x, Memorex 2.4 and 4x and KHypermedia 2.4 DVD+Rs, and all of them play perfectly well on my 5220P

They've all been burnt with various programs, including Ulead VS7, TMPGEnc DVD Author and Nero, and they all play with absolutely no problem--and that's an achievement for my 5220p, which has fits with commercial DVDs.

But it would definitely be time to get out of the RCA player as soon as earthly possible. The player was an irredeemable POS when it first came out, and the only reason I've held onto mine over the past three years is that I haven't had the money to get rid of it until now. But at my earliest convenience, I will be dumping it for the new Pioneer player that can play both DVD-Audio and SACD. I found out it plays my DVDs burnt from HDTV sources without a hitch, so it's found a place in my setup

  3. Thanks for the reply. I have been avoiding buying a new settop player because my 5220p is the only one that will play my homemade dvds of my home movies but I think it is time. Any recommendations on a good player that will play dvd+r's would be helpful. I am still filtering through the recommendations on the dvd players section but I would like to hear about war stories that people have been experiencing with various players before I buy another one that will just as much trouble as the rca.
