Hi all,
i've been using Scenarist for a while, it's a great program for dvd authoring but as we all know it's very complex...
i was wondering if anyone know where i can find some help.. about menus, sub layers, and all that related stuff.....
thanks

I found this site helpful when first starting out. It doesn't have anything to do with Scenarist, just with creating backgrounds and subpictures generally.
There are some Scenarist specific guides on doom9.net and of course the Scenarist manual is very in depth. Scenarist typically comes with training, so its not like you are going to find alot of internet guides available on it. I could probably answer some questions for you, but you are going to have to be alot more specific. -
hi there...
adam
i've read the manual a few times, as the program itself it's very complicated... but it's ok...
In the manual i still can't undertand the menus part...
it felt like if i have lost some part before that...
by the way, tks for the link.. i'll check it out
also, I found only 1 guide on doom9.net..
and it's basically a "how to re-author a DVD"
it's dosen't explain much about sub layers, buttons, backgrounds and menus...
any help would by apreciated

Well unless you have an actual question I don't know what to tell you. The Scenarist guide describes the process fairly well as far as I can tell. If you are missing pages in your hard copy I would think it would be obvious since they are numbered. If this is the case then contact Daiken.
Can you be more specific? Exactly what stage of the process are you stuck on? Have you made a still or motion clip for your background? Have you created your subpictures? Do you have the tracks built and just need to know how to create buttons? Do you have the buttons made but need to know how to create commands and links? Sorry but you haven't asked your question yet so I don't know how to answer.
There are guides on Doom9 which specifically talk about authoring material from scratch in Scenarist. It basically covers most of what you are talking about. Try these:

hi again...
what i mean by:
"In the manual i still can't undertand the menus part...
it felt like if i have lost some part before that... "
i was trying to point that 4 me that part is confusing, 'cause i dont have a clue about sub layers (subpictures), etc
i alredy know how to author a basic dvd with a few audio tracks, chapters al all that
the most important part for me is the menus, i still hasent been able to make a decent menu...
i want and still menu by the way
what i do..
i have my picture for my background (with my buttons on it and everything) in my background I have a button that says "Play all"
that i alredy link to the title i want..
the part i cant figure it out, is what do i have to put in my sub layer-sub picture
A copy of my background with my buttons? or only a blank page with buttons?, or what?. That mostly the part i dont understand...
1 other thing (maybe related) when i select a part for my button i only what to highlight a part not an entire box...
when i create a button i drag a box in my "play all" part and creates a button.. i only want to highlight the part that says "play all" not the entire box...
that all basically...
any help would by highly apreciated
thanks a lot

The subpicture for you buttons needs to be a totally solid color with just your button highlights on it. The most common color, and the one Scenarist uses by default, is blue.
So if you have a program which supports layers, like Adobe Photoshop, then just create a new layer and draw your buttons on top of the background pic you are using. Once you have the buttons how you want them, set fill the background with blue and import that into Scenarist. Keep in mind though that what you see in Photoshop is not what you see in Scenarist. DVD authoring uses color mapping. So if you draw a white line as your sublayer in Photoshop, it will only appear white in Scenarist if you set white as white. If you have a commercial DVD than use Subrip to extract the subtitles from the vob containing the menu's. Just look at the subpictures and it should be pretty clear what you need to do. -
can you scan in the pages of the manual that are confusing and post that information here? I dont have scenarist ( 1) all my authoring needs are met by TMPGENC dvd author and MF2 and 2) my wife would MURDER me if I purchased Scenarist. Isnt it like 80k?!?!?!?!?!?
A lot of the members here have a knack for "figgerin' stuff out" , so if you post the pages, maybe "we" can help you make some sense out of it.
I was just thinking, isn't scenarist not even being made anymore.!?!?!?!?!
