  1. what I'm trying to do is have a single mpeg file split up into chapters every 7 seconds (its for a presentation and the slides have transitions so I can't just have a slideshow..). after the end of each chapter I want the vcd to pause indefinitely until the "next" button is pressed. this seems to work properly if I use different mpeg files for each chapter, but if I use a single mpeg file then it just runs nonstop to the end of the vcd without taking the pauses and the end of each chapter.

what I'm using right now is VCDEasy (the last free one). I've also tried editing the xml file and reading up on the vcd/xml style but it doesn't help.

this presentation needs to be finalized by the end of this upcoming week so if anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it

(oh yeah, and I think splitting the mpeg file into smaller mpeg files is a last resort but it'll be a real pain since I have over 1000 slides across 4 vcds for my presentation).

    thanks.

There's this latest inexpensive technology called the pause button.

Just kidding man...have you tried splitting them up? That may work.

Will VirtualDub or something split them up at 7 second increments? Or is there some other utility that will automatically split them because manually splitting 1000 slides is really going to be a PITA!

If you can edit XML files, there are two XML elements that will probably do what you want: <autopause> and <autowait>.

Autopause points are defined in the sequence-item (the mpeg) and autowait (the time of each autopause, -1 is infinite until a key is pressed) is defined in playlist elements. I never used them, though, so I cannot give any more explanations about them. Try some how-to guides on XML editing and then make some tests.

BTW, I don't know how many autopause points can be assigned for one sequence-item; maybe 500?
