  1. I can create some good AVI or windows video slideshows with my jpg files in a slidewhow with a music background. However, when I cut a VCD of the files the PQ of the video goes from good to poor (using Nero or Adobe Album). If I just use Nero to cut a simple VCD slideshow without audio, the good PQ is retained. What is the best way to get a good PQ VCD slideshow with music?

    Option-

1--Make an XVCD, where movie resolution is 704x480, just like stills, instead of usual 352x240. This will work if your player supports it.

2--Use Mikk's guide to create a still with audio, and segment your audio (probably not what you want, though)

3--Make a miniDVD, if your player supports it.

4--Make an SVCD if your player supports it. It won't be all the way up to 704x480 (or DVD/miniDVD's 720x480), but at least it'll be 480x480 which is much better than 352x240.

I'm sure there might be a few other possibilities...

I use Slide Show Movie Maker for my VCD/pic CD's. Great free program.

  4. Scott: I''m not sure my DVD player (Pioneer DV-363) will do XVCDs or SVCDs. I'll try the XVCD route first. I'm well familiar with AVI-VCD conversions using TmpGen and Nero, but haven't done any XVCDs. Found instructions on this site. Seems to be no prob. Don't have a DVD burner.

Hech: I already used SSMM in one of my test iterations and got the crummy video PQ previously reported. (Maybe I didn't set the right parameters, or maybe that is the typical product. Dunno.)

    Thanks for the suggestions.

The quality of the pics on SS Movie Maker is pretty good to me. Maybe you are just a bit more quality oriented than me...
I am doing striclty pics with background music though.

  6. Following the above suggestions, I find that I can burn a good XVCD, using Nero, from an AVI file created by SSMM and converted to mpeg via TmpGenc. I can now get acceptable PQ. I'm going to go back now and see if I can burn a SVCD using the same programs. I'm now confident of success, having found that my DVD player seems to play that (unadvertised) format.

    Thanks for all the help.
