I am familiar with dvd shrink 2.3 but am now trying the version 3 and am a bit confused about the deep analysis feature.
Do i use deep analysis after i have taken out foreign subtitles etc etc or before i remove anything ??
thanks for your help

I used it, but it did not make much difference to the picture quality on my T.V.
Any other observations?. -
Hi.
Using "Deep Analysis" before clicking on "Backup!" is recommended if you change one or more of the compression settings from "Automatic" to "Ratio".
This is only to make sure the target size estimate will be as precise as possible.
The difference in quality will be more or less noticeable depending on the original bitrate of the DVD being backed-up, the amount of compression used, your viewing equipment,...
This can vary from "not noticeable" to "glaringly obvious". -
I've only used the deep analysis and picture is great, but I'm curious in any responses of member's who've tried it both ways. After you've reauthored, click your backup and click your deep analyis. If not reauthoring, then backup and click your deep analyis

I've used it on every movie I've done with DVD Shrink. I'm a little scared not to use it, especially on long movies like Braveheart and The Godfather.

I use deep analysis if the DVD needs to be shrunk more than 70%
I don't usit over that limit because I've found the quality difference to be minimal. I have been proven wrong on a couple of occasions but that's ok since this is only a "rule of thumb".....it works more often than not"Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless."

ddlooping,
I am not certain who the author is DVDShrink is but my hats off to him/her or them for a great program!
I have even used the program to fit three (3) DVDs onto one DVD-R. I got curious one eveing and MAX shrunk three of my DVDs to about 1.8Gb each. I then loaded these three into DVDAuthor as separate tracks each with their own main menu entry and each of those with their own chapter selection points and recreated a new VIDEO_TS folder. Which by the way was bigger than what would fit onto one DVD-R. So back into DVDShrink it went and size adjusted to fit and voila. Three great looking movies. It takes an awful lot of scrutinizing to see the loss in quality. To my entertaining eye, they are just as good as the original.
Once again, great program.

Thanks for the positive feedback, edsmith77, dvdshrink (the sole author/developer of DVD Shrink) will appreciate it.
And I'm not him.
I wish I had his programming knowledge though. -
ddlooping,
In the for what its worth category, I do like the new resize method in 3 better that the 5% increments in 2.3. However, the reauthor functionality in 2.3 was more intuitive and easier to grasp than that in 3. Version 3 reauthor does work and just fine, it is getting the Title set into the reauthor screens was simpler and more straight forward in Version 2.3.

P.S: the next release GUI will probably be like the first mockup, but with the preview on the left, as in v2.3 (I'd rather it stays on the right though, as long as the aspect ratio is conserved; it'd be more logical to drag the titles vertically than across the window)
