  1. i ahev been looking at a few programs to capture audio, now i have audacity at the minute but that captures from the speakers. Is there a way to configure it to capture the direct streamed audio from the computer, ie, not through the speakers, or is there another program that can do this.

  3. Adjust your windows audio properties to 'what u hear' and Audacity will record anything that you can hear through your speakers.

I used it to record some streaming audio from the net earlier today so I know it can do it

  5. You can use musicmatch jukebox or total recorder to record from the line in on your sound card. just configure it to see the line in on the program and select the line in on the soundcard options and it will record it that way.

  8. check to see if there is any options in the program itself on what to record from. i am not familiar with the program you have listed, but i would say there should be the option to use the line in. it is probably set to see it as a stereo mix which will do the "record what you hear from the speakers".

  9. I just downloaded the audacity program, if you select the line in on your sound card, and in the preferences of the program, the audio i/o tab select your sound card and it should record from the line in.

  10. StreamBox VCR is a pretty good app for capturing streaming content off the web.

Also, there was a long thread about recording What you hear with Audacity etc.. recently - some of which may be relevant:

  11. cheers guys, i had selected line in on the program and the sound card but i had switched from audacity to total sound recorder. I'll check out those links and see how it goes.

  12. I don't think you want to select line in - that's if you're recording audio from an external source (e.g. VCR, tape deck) plugged into your Line In on the soundcard.

It sounds like you want to select wav if that's there - this is whatever is being played through the soundcard (e.g. output from software that you have running).

  13. no result with audacity, i have selected line in on my computer but still nothing.

In the link somebody mentions enabling "what you hear" in windows, where can i do this?

    cheers

  14. read what i just wrote above - line in is the wrong input to select in the mixer for what you want to do.

Have a look at the screenshots I posted in the other topic I linked to above - I went through the mixer set-up in Win2K.

I think 'what u hear' may be something in XP - but it will be a similar idea anyway.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

  15. i never saw your post mate, i posted then went and tried what you said, came back and posted, i just thought that it was your previous post.

  16. ok - wasn't meaning to be rude or anything

so what are all of the options on your mixer in XP?

(not just the ones you see when it pops up, but when you go through properties etc.. as per my screenshots in the other topic - you may have to put the tick in the box to reveal all of the 'sliders')

Remember to select 'recording' and not 'playback'.

  19. ok, the ones before were the ones that were selected in that list

    others there are;

    mono mix
    stereo mix

  20. right - i've got Stereo Mix on mine too (as well as wave) - I'm not sure what that does (perhaps records from the mixer, i.e. all the inputs going into the mixer, with levels as set in the mixer).

    Might be worth a try?

If not, sorry - not sure about XP not showing wave - perhaps it's XP, perhaps it's your hardware...

Anyone who runs XP care to lend a hand?
