I've succesfully converted a DVD from a DVD-9 to DVD-5 format using DVD shrink and Smartripper. The only thing is that it does not produce and Video_ts files used for navigativing the DVD. I have copied the original Video_ts (non-shrunk) file to DVD-Rdisk but I get data error reports when I play it in my DVD player. It is not a problem as I can turn navigation off on my DVD player, however I would like to be able to navigate when I watch my movie so I can skip to specific scenes.
You got any tips, suggestions for me ?

You have to create a VIDEO_TS folder yourself then point DVDshrink to that folder. Also you don't need to use SmartRipper with DVDshrink.

Thanks for your reply bob,
I know, but the problem is that I have tried to use the "Open Disk" function on DVD shrink with a DVD disk, but the program stalls ! I have tried downloading it from many different sites, but crashed every time. The only way I can do it is by using Smartripper, allowing DVD Shrink to read the VTS_01_0 file. However it will not read the Video_ts file ?!?
So how do I create a Video_ts file myself ? All I want is a backup of the original Video_ts file. Is that not possible ?
Let me know, Thanks Bob -
SmartRipper doesn't read the Video_Ts file? Now that is a weird one. Maybe try using another ripper program but it sounds like you must have some kind of windows system problem.

Hey Bob,
Thanks again for your reply. Bit of a misunderstanding, smartripper rips all the DVD files off the DVD inlcuding the video_ts file. However when I shrink the DVD-9 to DVD-5 format using DVD Shrink to fit on a single DVD-R it does not produce a Video_TS file. So when I burn a DVD-R I use the Video_TS file from smartripper (from the original DVD- not processed by DVD shrink). This is what causes the problem with my DVD player as it is not able to read it correctly.
So how do I create a Video_TS file ? All I want is a copy from the orginal DVD-9 that will work.
Thanks, Ridethestorm -
Thanks BOB, I will give it a shot ! I got a new SATA drive ? I don't think that should be a problem, also I installed ASPI drivers.
One DVD copy was okay, and navigated okay, the other had problems. -
I was considering getting a serial ATA hard drive. Are they really that much faster than a standard drive? Last time I checked only Seagate was offering them for sell and the price was a bit on the high side.

I don't notice too much difference ?!?! I got a seagate barracuda.
However, at least I don't have 2 or 3 drives in a single IDE slot, so should make a difference on my system.
Would you know how I could shut down windows prof ?? I got a bit of a problem everytime I want it to shut down.. it re-boots. Pain the arse !
Thanks Bob -
I seem to remember there was a problem with WindowsXP with the shutdown however I also recall that the first service pack fixed it.
I had a big problem myself with XP Pro just re-booting on it's own. Out of nowhere it would just re-boot. I had to update the motherboard bios to fix that one. -
Sorry I am getting off the point with my problem with DVD conversions !
Got VTS Sectors by scanning the video_ts.ifo file. What do i do next ?? Does it fix them ?
I am running Win 2000 Prof service pack 4. Also got bios updates.. but doesn't seem to to the trick. -
no virus i think, i scan my computer regularly and usually update very regularly aswell. Possibly hardware incompatibility problems i reckon.
It shuts down no problem in "safe mode," also I put my computer on sandby first then i shut it down, it worked.
Thanks
