  1. Hi guys, I'm new to this capturing bussines so I wanted to get a few suggestions before I get started.

What I need to do is the following, capture some VHS tapes to CD (SVCD or eventually DVD) and record TV (mostly F1 races from europe where they run the most of them and I get the transmision sundays 6 am, I'm not very good at early waking up), my VHS broke down and I am not to enthusiastic to get another one, I rather stick with digital now.

I have been doing some research and I have come down to two cards, the ATI TV Wonder VE and the Winfast 2000XP Deluxe. I have chosen these two mainly for the price, because I am not willing to spend to much, and for what i've read they do similar stuff.

I would like to know what have been your experiences wih this cards or with any other in a similar price range ($50 - $75) or any suggestions if I am completely lost on what i'm tying to do. Any comment or suggestion will be greatly apreciated.

One more thing, approximately how much hard drive space will I need for 1 hour of capture time? I guess it pretty much depends on the format, but I really dont know the size expected form any format.

    Thanks

I use an ATI Radeon 64mb DDR ViVo which has been superb for me and cost only £35 ($50-ish), I hear the AIW are the choice but I don't need the tuner, I pump it in from composite VHS and record from satellite tv that way.
I use Virtualdub to capture using the MJPEG codec from PicVideo, that gives me approx 8gb per half hour (at quality setting 19/20).
Welcome to dvdrhelp.com, use the guides on the left of your screen, they're superb
this guide here by Baldrick might be your best start, as well as this one here by Satstorm, they're both very good.
    Good luck
