  1. hi,

Excuse my long message, but PLEASE read it and help me if you can. Any adviced are welcomed!

Alot of MPG files are not recognized as VCD-compatible files when I try adding them in NERO. Then I have to convert them into the VCD format using TMPGenc or similiar.
BUT, i remember in old versions of Nero, almost any MPG file could be added (even very highly compressed files that was absolutely in lower resolution than VCD-standard), and Nero would accept these files without complaining on that it's not a VCD file (it didn't look like it converted the files when i added them, it just added them and then the VCD was ready to be burned). After the VCD was burned, the chapters that had files that were originally in lower resolution than VCD-standard, were now showing in VCD-standard resolution, and played fine.

Why did this change in later versions of Nero? I hate to convert files in TMPGenc etc. Alot of the times I have to do it because the original file is in NTSC and not PAL (this was never a problem in older versions of Nero either, it always accepted any MPG file).

Anyway, my real question is: Is there any GOOD program that burns VCDs, that will do what older versions of Nero did? that is, accept ANY (or most) MPG files, regardless resolution, NTSC/PAL, etc, and burn them into the correct VCD standard resolution (if a conversion is neccessary, i want the program to do this automatically). Any advices on programs that can do this??

You probably had "Create standard-compliant CD" unchecked there in the VCD compilation's properties, thats why it accepted any MPEGs.

However you should decide either you want to make real VCDs, or vcd-alike CD-ROMs? Some players can play discs with MPEG files just slapped onto cd-r/rw without any VCD authoring (and without any standard compliancy), i.e. many cheap Apexes can do that, but AFAIK most of the standalone players won't be able to play such discs.

You probably mean Nero 6.x ? Again - try to find your compilation's property options/info and deselect "standard compliancy" there, this should at least let you mix PAL & NTSC files (I dont use Nero 6 and I cant give you exact location, but Im rather sure it must be there).

I hate to sound like some ass, but to think of what you suggest: such VCD authoring program would be actually an example of very very *bad* software. Standards are out there for the reason of universal compatibility. If something is a *VCD* it should be playable on any machine that carries a VCD logo, therefore it have to be made within VCD standard's outlined specifications to achieve that.

Can't you install back that old version of Nero you were talking about?

No need for that, there is actually an option in Nero6/Nero Vision Express to make it accept non-compliant MPEGs...
