Im using Smartripper, then DVD2AVI, then Fitcd to calculate, then TMPGencPlus to encode, then nero5 corporate to author (also vcdeasy, both do the same thing, but nero has fancier menus).
Anyway, playing back the video is jerky, also shows horizonal scanlines playing the mpeg on pc... especially on panning scenes where the camera moves side to side, thats where you see the choppiness the most.
I followed a stupid guide, it made me use 2 pass VBR and progressive non interlaced video instead of interlaced, but didnt explain why at all, so for all i know it was a mistake. It even said along the way "..at least for PAL." so it might be all screwy. however i made things NTSC equivalent as often as possible.
My only theory is the interlace/non interlace setting, or the fact i encoded at 29.97 FPS instead of 23.x. Its 2 fast 2 furious, but DVD2AVI said NTSC not NTSCFilm.. However it said FILM underneath.. so i cant tell if i shoudl be using 23 or 29. I assumed 29 would create a smoother better quality image. It always has on VCD at least.... any ideas poeple? its bothering me and i have about 20 GB of vobs on my HD i cant do anything with until i figure this out.

Uh.. It says:
4:3
29.970 FPS
FILM
Progressive
Nowhere does it say NTSC, however 29.970 FPS would mean NTSC.
I just checked 3 rips and some say FILM, some say progressive, some say interlaced.
and one says NTSC, then Film, then Film x% and the percent keeps changing. It goes to film after the first couple seconds. what the heck does that mean. -
About the first minute or so of a movie can be both progressive and film...if the film % in dvd2avi goes up above 95% and does not get lower, encode using FILM. If it changes, you have a hybrid (both film and progressive), which is a problem....and I dont know how to help you with that (ive had that same problem once)
