Gee, that sounds like a great idea. Give the newbies their own forum.

    "How do you do this?"

"Gee,I don't know, I been trying to find out too, but those smart guys won't talk to us."

The one thing it would do is keep the offensive newbie questions out of the view of those bitching.

But some of them would probably lurk and snicker, make a remark in the "Expert Zone", next thing you know,no one can use the Newbie forum because of lack of "bandwidth", same thing as their bitch now.

Maybe we should forbid any newbie from logging in with anything faster than a 33.6 modem.

Just an opinion, sarcasm intended. Why does this subject arise so often? Everybody bored?

    Cheers,

    George

Thanks tgpo, only used the smiley myself, as too many people don't recognize tongue-in-cheek, think you are "dissing" them..

Absolutely no sense of humor, or humour, as our Brit/Aussie friends would spell it. I understand they pronounce it the same way it is spelled, much as Worchestershire is pronounced syllable for syllable.

    Cheers,

    tgpo,

I think you missed the point.

I think they pronounce the sauce named above as "Wooster", and we pronounce it "Wistershire".

No matter. It is all in fun, isn't it?

    Cheers,

    George

  11. I would agree with Offlines comment. Unfortunately, not everyone is so polite. The suggestion to separate the forums would be to allow the newbies questions to be answered by those who are neither newbies or veterans. The concern is that newbies should not be scared away nor should veterans have to see all those redundant posts. From the number of ads on this site, one would guess that more visitors means more product sales leading to more bandwidth not less.

But, we separate the forum into Vet and Newbie sections, to keep Vets from having to see all those stupid newbie posts, and just let newbies and those with just enough knowledge to be dangerous see the posts, and answer them.

I stand by my last post. Do not look. You are offended by all the redundant posts, redundant because it has been answered a thousand times, go away, scroll to the next intelligent post, on that will give you a challenge, not a migraine.

    Cheers,

    George

How about a little PHP magic programing. Simply set yourself to ignore any threads started by someone with less than X posts. You can also block specific users, see your own threads, bookmark threads...etc etc. Other sites do it, but then it's all about the $$$. Need to quadruple the sites horsepower to do that though.........

I don't think newbies have been made to suffer nearly enough! Give them a lashing! No posting until you have been a member for 5 years! Kiss the ass of all "advanced" users! Flame them to death! arrrggg.. they deserve to die all of them. :P

What is in between newbie and not newbie? Newbie come over to the dark side!

  15. Prices for burners around here have dropped to below $130 and good quality dvd-r's are less than $1. Software is getting better and easier to use too. These things are likely to increase the number of newbies and the frequency of their posts. At some point, it may be desirable to separate the forums. There is nothing to prevent newbies from reading the veteran forum. It is easy to suggest they read the guides but the forums are often more current.

  16. What defines a newbie from a veteran?
Do verterans have to know everything in all the forums?
What happens if a veteran in say...DVD to DVDR wants to learn about editing videos and starts post questions in that forum? The vet just became a newbie, right?....Now what?....

Requirements will only discourage people from asking questions and others from learn by the answers...

IMHO, The current setup is fine.

  17. There are no hard distinctions about what you know. It is more about what makes you feel more comfortable. The objective is for everyone to have a positive experience visiting this site. I would surmise this thread wouldn't be here if that were entirely true.

    TR,

    NO! NO! NO!

It is not a big group that gets pissed about a "Newbie" asking a "Stupid", answered a 1000 times question. It is a few that bring this up all the time..

It's kinda like the US Senate, bring up a new tax scheme every 6 years, when a "Newbie" gets elected, or the House, brings up the same every 2 years when the "freshman" class gets sworn in.

But, here, we have some who figure they have learned it all in the last 3 or 6 months and get pissed to hear someone ask the same question they asked 6 months ago. This is a fact of life. This has gone on since time immemorial, here, like 2 years, and it will go on as long as this site is up.

When you get "smart", you hate to hear your own "dumb" question repeated. Some smartass is liable to link to a post from 6 months ago where Joe Blow asked the same thing, but Joe has a 1000 posts now, and doesn't want anyone to see that he asked a stupid question then. After all, he IS a guru now.

For Christ's sake (sorry, religion ) what the hell , drives you guys? I only go back 11 months this registration, but I have probably seen this same thread reopened 6 times. If you really can't stand to see Newbie posts, go to doom9 or somewhere that only "experts" are allowed to post.

Except, I am allowed there, so maybe there IS no place you can go that doesn't welcome a "newcomer".

You know, I have never seen this subject brought up anywhere else. Either they crack down on them, tell them if you have nothing better to do than complain about new members asking "dumb" questions, please go elsewhere, or the clientele is much less hoi-poloi than ours.

And, if spelling, grammar, courtesy, are considered, we don't have so much hoi-poloi here. Mostly young people who think caps, single letters, bad grammar, spelling don't mean shit. Half the time I have to read a post several times just to get the gist of it..

The worst is half of you are in college at this very moment Makes me very worried about how this world will be run in the next 20 yearrs when you come to power. You'll probably decide best to euthanize all us old farts.

    Cheers,

    George

BTW, there are ssome of you whom I think are very bright. The rest, all you can do is kvetch, kvetch, kvetch.

  19. George,

I didn't realize the number complaining about newbies is so limited. They don't seem to be making many suggestions in this thread. I think I will have to agree with you. Thanks for the clarifications and happy burning.

New generation of Lifeview FlyTV TV-cards are in the market (FlyTV Prime 30, 34 illetve FlyTV Platinum 34, 35, FlyVideo DV3000).

Are they the same as LifeView Flyvideo 2000 and 3000

If they are different, then You should add them to capture cards. Thanks.

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning.
