    On the back of most DVD packaging (near the Dolby Digital logo) it should say whether or not it is dual layer or single layer.

    Can regular DVD writers burn onto DVD9s?
    No, to 'write' to DVD9's you need to use a commercial press. I believe that technology is in the works to create recordable DVD9's.

    Can you buy DVD9s or are they just for commercial use?
    As per above, just for commercial use really.
