Okay, from what I can tell from this site... chapters on a VCD are time locations of a single MPG file that you can go to that specified time by going to that chapter. When recording shows with commercials... should I split the MPG videos into seperate mpg files according to where the commericals are, or should I rejoin those pieces and just make a chapter for the VCD? Is there differences between them, either one easier to use? Is it worth the extra work of joining the MPGs and then creating a chapter for each one, or just leave them as individual files when going into the VCD player?

Joining the mpgs takes like 5 mins and authoring the chapters takes maybe 1 min. So the amount of work involved really doesnt matter. If you just burn the mpgs separately then you will almost definitely have a pause between each mpg during playback. If this doesnt bother you then just leave the mpgs separate. If you want seamless playback then join them and make chapters.
