  1. Hi everyone! OK, here's my problem: I have an AVi file on my computer playing smoothly and with no problems. When I convert this AVI file to MPEG2 with tools such as WINMPG or PINNACLE STUDIO 8, the results are OK, but these tools don't have any filters or other interesting options, so I tried to make the conversion through TMPGenc. The problem here is that whenever I use pal/25 fps, the resulting MPEG2 file drops frames or makes the picture skip, as if it would need more frame rating. Exactly, if I convert the file to NTSC/29.75 fps the resulting MPEG plays OK and smoothly. Obiously as I live in Europe my dvd player is PAL system. What can I do?? What am I missing in TMPGenc?? I've tried all different options, but with no luck. I've changed the bitrating, the GOPS, interlacing...etc. I've been trying it for a couple of weeks so far...Can anybody help me please?

  2. depending on your source you need do:

PAL -> PAL: 25 fps -> 25 fps just run it through tmpgenc and it will be fine
NTSC -> PAL: 29,97 fps -> 25 fps search the forum and the guide section for information on converting NTSC to PAL.

When you post next time try to post it in the correct forum. It will help you getting more response.

  4. - what did you use to make the avi?
    - did you run it through virtualdub to see it if got any errors?
    - you could try to let virtualdub frameserver to tmpgenc.

  5. Yes, I've already tried that as well. Let it run through Virtualdub and got no errors (0). Strange, isn't it? Encoding proccess is just a "transformation" of data into a different shape. Shouldn't have to be any data loss or frame dropping....

What he's saying is that you need to match your conversion method to your source. Check the source frame rate first using Virtualdub. Load the file and check the file information for frame rate. If it's 25 fps then you can convert straight to 25 fps pal. If not, then you need to frame rate convert. Do a search or check the guides for rate conversion. If you don't rate convert then the video is jerky and jumpy.
