Im somewhat confused,I can burn a cd-r after capturing in avi to an mpeg 1 or 2 (poor quality) and it will play in every dvd player I have but when i burn a dvd after capturing in avi and saving it as mpeg 2 then burning it to dvd it only plays in certain dvd players not all.

Is it possible to make cd-r with better quality?

Shouldnt a burnt dvd play in all dvd players?

Im capturing with a sony Digicam using a usb cable (my firewire is on order)

any help would be appreciated.

I've never captured before so I dont know about the quality thing...but my best guess would be that your source isnt very good. If the source isnt good then the product will be just as crappy.

About the burnt dvd...check for compatibility. Some your players may not support dvd-r or +r media. Try different brands and see if that works.

I know its really broad advice but its a broad answer to a broad question. This is the best I could do...maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject.

if you are capturing as MPEG1 VCD then most players WILL play them fine. My guess is because CD-r media has been out on the market for awhile, while DVD-r has not.

I have 5 DVD players total... some play media that others wont. The XBox is a perfect example of this. The Panasonic Gamecube is another. Then there is the Samsung n501. In the past, when trying new media, i typically load the disc in each of those three players to see which one would decide to play it.

In my experience i have found that the darker purple the bottom of the disc is, the better compatibility with consumer DVD players you will have.
