I tried playing Dreamcatcher on my DVD Player and it sat reading the Disk for like 5 minutes and wouldnt play, and right before that, Apollo 13 played fine. So I put Apollo 13 back in, and it wouldnt play (says no Disk). I tried an Audio CD and it plays fine. Why did it all of a sudden stop playing DVD's. I played Dreamcatcher on my other DVD player I have in the other room and it worked fine. Please help.

  4. Try turning it off with the main power switch on the back of the unit for a bit and see if it resets itself and works again. They are all kind of mini computers so it might just need a cold reboot.
I liked mine, played most movies fine with the second from the newest firmware and the picture quality was great. I'm selling it only becuase I got a LVD2001 and a Pioneer 563a. I think I'll keep the old Haier HD 700 with OFFA firmware just because of the unique things it can do and the constant tweaks people make for them.

    Question for you 69Dartman ...

I have tried many different PAL to NTSC capable DVD players and I have found the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 to be the best that there is.

However I've been toying around with the idea of getting the LiteOn LVD-2001 so ...

My question is ... how well does it do PAL to NTSC ... do you think it is worse ... about the same ... or better ... than the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500?

    Thanks in advance for answering

  6. I don't have anything like that to test with but everyone says the 500 was pretty much perfect. I believe the 2001 isn't as good from what I've read and I've boxed up the 500 to wait for someone to buy it. If you can poin me some where to get something to test it with or how to make a test disk I can see what happens. I do have a DVD burner.
The 2001 does have scalable zoom as far as I can tell so you can adjust the aspect ratio with the zoom feature till it looks OK, worked with a SVCD that looked strecthed I made.
There are many reviews here and elsewhere about the 2001 that might have some answers for you too.

I thank you but I was hopeing that someone with EXPERIENCE in watching PAL converted to NTSC would give me the low down.

So far I don't trust the reviews. They never devote much time to the PAL to NTSC issue other than to say it works.

When you ae experienced in watching many different types of sources that have been converted form PAL to NTSC you kinda get a feel for what it should look like and what to look for to be able to tell if it is being done well or not.

In short converting PAL to NTSC is a tricky thing and not all devices that do so do it as well as they should.
