  1. I have a 3GHz P4 with HT, after an upgrade from a 2.8GHz P4 with HT.

When I am encoding in TMPGEnc, I set all priorities to high, but for some reason, the 3GHz seems to take longer to encode than the 2.8GHz

With all priorities set to high I can also go about and do every day tasks on my PC unhindered by the encoding process, which I was unable to do before.

I do not know why this happens, especially as I have also moved to S-ATA hard drives at the same time of getting my P4 3GHz. (BTW: I also encode from one drive to the other so as not to slow down encoding either.)

If anyone could help me out with any way to make TMPGEnc work more intensively, and therefore quicker, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not that I can help you, but maybe for a little clarity...

TMPGEnc is not using 100% of the processor with the new machine? That would seem strange.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  3. Yes, TMPGEnc is not using all the power of the processor for encoding.

This is what I find strange. I have been having some overheating issues and I know Intel processors decrease the clock multiplier to slow the processor down, but if anything, this should make TMPGEnc even more intensive on the processor since it is running at a slower speed, but it doesn't.

I will be fixing the overheating problem but I don't see how that will effect it in any way.

Has anyone else come across any programs with the same functions as TMPGEnc? (I have tried CCE, but can't get it to encode any audio for some reason.)

  4. Have you re-installed anything .. thus making it aware of your new Ht processor. how much processor usage are you getting? (on one processor thread). I normally get about 80-90 with tmpgenc. on my AMd.

    worthwhile upgrade..3% better??
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  5. I haven't re-installed anything, but it is aware of the HT processor. (It shows 2 processors in device manager.)

Without HT enabled I get 54-58% CPU usage.
With HT enabled I get 93-100% CPU usage.

It wasn't really an upgrade, my dad just gave me his processor in exchange for mine because I do video editing more than him.

when i set all my priorities to hih, i would also go into my task manager and set the priority to real time...holla back

  7. Cheers SIRCOOKS

I didn't even know about that option, but it seems to have solved my problem.

    My usage is now:
    Without HT: 66-70%
    With HT: 96-100%

    Thanks everyone for your help.

  9. It doesn't actually seem to increase it now, I guess it initially went faster because I had Internet Explorer open and another computer was running through my network initially, so it must have raised the priority there.

When I tried it without IE and at normal priority I got an encode time of 3:19
With priority at high I could get 3:18 out it at the most, but I guess I will see a greater differences for longer encodes.

(It was a 2:40 VCD clip that I encoded to DVD resolution at CBR).
