anyway, it linked to two posts on www.doom9.org that had some AVI codec comparisons - they were pretty interesting...
if you go over there, you may be able to find them - one was called 'mini study' (I think) and I can't remember the other - sorry I couldn't be more help but if you can find these, they had interesting info (maybe these were DV only? can't recall - for DV, they liked the panasonic and canopus codec...huffyuv gets a lot of positive posts in this board)."As you ramble on through life, brother, whatever be your goal - keep your eye upon the doughnut and not upon the hole." -
best is subjective .. the on2 codecs are really really good , huffyuv is really good ... dv is certainly more compressed and a lot smaller ..
the canopus and main concept dv codecs are fine ... i havnt used the panasonic one .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
the codec you are refering to has some major issues yet and is still in beta ... one of the major issues is that you need thier compressor interface to compress anything and it it isnt free (it doesnt work with v-dub) ... so im not going to mention it .. but it is in the tools section i pretty well believe ..

I use Iuvcr to capture tv shows for reencoding to DVDr. I have used several dv codecs (MS, MC, Canopus, Sony, Panasonic) and they all work well, never a miscue with an editing software and they save space. Huffyuv is very good as well although I have had some issues with green frames and color blooms. I just got a copy of Matrox's DVCPRO50 codec and their MPEG 2 I-Frame codec which has an adjustable bitrate up to 50 mbps as well. They are 4:2:2 codecs which dominate SD broadcast right now (DVCPRO50 and Sony's IMX which is 50 mbps MPEG I-Frame). Preliminary results are excellent on both as tmpgenc and Main Concept encode them well. Will need to play around with them some more but you might give them a try in addition to huffyuv.

bayaraa_us - also fwiw, I've also used the pegasus mjpeg codec (used w iuVCR) - imo it can produce some good results http://www.jpg.com/picvideomjpeg.htm...on their site they also mention a losless mjpeg codec but I can't really say anything about it...
I think there are quite a few pegasus mjpeg users out there & people seem to like it - if you are ok on disk space and your cpu is up to it try setting it on 19 or 20 (highest quality) - you can back off from there if you like.
They have a demo version (watermark) that you can download to try out - if you pay the $28 for the license (non-commercial) you don't need to re-install but as a head's up there are two license keys, one for encode and another for decode and you need to enter them both (they will both be in the email you will get but you need to scroll all the way through)"As you ramble on through life, brother, whatever be your goal - keep your eye upon the doughnut and not upon the hole."
