  1. I just received my advc 100 yesterday. I was happy with the vhs I was able to capture with the advc. The only problem was that I used ulead videostudio 7 to capture. I had been using it for the past week (the legnth of time I have been up and running... I am a newbie) to capture directly from my mini dv camcorder. The picture on capture and playback always looked fine. Last night on trying to catpure this vhs tape, the audio was extremely choppy and there were these bunches of horizontal lines at either side and in the middle. It kind of looked like something to do with the interlacing. When I played the file back in VS 7, the audio was fine but the picture still had this distortion on it. Now, when I went to play the file today, I played it in windows media player and it was fine. I thought it was just a wierd thing between the advc and VS 7. I then played back an older file from a few days ago that played fine at the time, and I had the same problem. It plays in windows media player no problem, but when played in VS 7, it has the same type of picture distortion (albeit with white lines). I don't think I particularly changed anything in VS 7. I found when trying to capture with other programs tonight, I had the same problem. I have probably downloaded a new app or two in the last couple of days, but the only other change seems to be the addition of the advc. I thought that it might be interference from the advc, as well as, my vcr power cords. I disconnected them and plugged them in a separate outlet. I tried a different firewire cord as well to see if that might make a difference. I guess I am hoping that someone has experienced something similar and might have an idea of what to do. Perhaps the file is okay if it plays fine in WMP but it is very annoying to see and I am not sure if there really could be something wrong with the signal.

  2. I forgot to mention that there is also ghosting of the image. It almost looks like it is trying to put another image on top of the main one at times. The image will be shifted over to the right a bit.

  3. As a further follow up. Last night I was on the Ulead website to check out their forums etc. I decided to download a couple of their video tutorials to check out. Unfortunately, when I went to play a tutorial on windows media player, I had this same problem of a superimposing of a ghost image ontop of the primary image that is shifted to the right and is distorted. I would compare it to an extent to when r2d2 is boradcasting the holographic message to luke from leia in Star Wars. As stated earlier, I can play my avi files from analog capture or mini dv capture fine in windows media player, but any of the capture programs that that allow you to view the image while capturing (pick any of the popular freeware programs) , had this distorted ghost image overtop. I really think this is an interlace problem based on how it looks, because even main image will go back and forth between looking ok and then having that jagged appearance that comes with interlace problems. It is strange because until I hooked my advc 100 up, all my files played back fine.
