  1. I remember reading someplace that ripping the vob files straight from the DVD drive(clicking and dragging) could shorten the life of your drive. I plan to burn large Xvid movies to DVDs around 1G. I assume copying them directly from the DVD would be bad for it as well. WOuld playing them directly from the DVD be bad for the drive? Also if I wanted to copy them from the drive how would I go about doing so safely? Is playing a DVD from the drive bad for it? I assume its not just because thats sort of its purpose but still better safe then sorry so I ask. Any other tips along this line would be nice as well. Thanks in advance.

From what I have been told, it depends if the drive is a burner or a ROM. If the former, try and only burn from it, to extend the life of it. If the latter, playing DVDs on it is fine, in my opinion.
    Hello.
