Why cant I make a VCD

Every time I try to make a VCD my stand alone Daewoo dvd player wont play it. I am using nero 5 and TMPGE. I have managed to make one vcd and get it to play on my dvd player, but I dont know why that worked and the others dont. The file I used to make the sucessful vcd was already in mpeg format and all I had to do was make a VCD in Nero.

My television is a PAL format.

I have used TMPGE to convert AVI files into MPEG1 or MPEG2 files, changed the frame rate between 29 and 25, what am I doing wrong, nothing seems to work and my wife is running out of uses for my coasters.

1) Check you are using the right templates in tmpge

You shouldn't be able to change the things that stop it from working, but check your resolution is 352x288, mpg1 and 25fps.

2) Use CDRW to test burn onto, that way you don't keep wasting CDR's.

Yes thanks very much for the good advice. I used the TMPGE template and it worked perfectly.
