Sorry to ask everyone this stupid question but I am really having a problem with the nec 1300A drive. I put it as primary master and it is detected. But when i tried to use the downloaded firmware 1.06 or 1.07, it would not say it is present. Not sure if i installed it right, i read that maybe it has to be secondary or something but not sure. What should I do? WHat software should i download (please link), i feel stupid for even asking these questions, i just have never bought bulk before. Thank for your time tho, eagerly waiting to burn something

Sorry to ask everyone this stupid question but I am really having a problem with the nec 1300A drive. I put it as primary master and it is detected.
That's correct. The drive is supposed to be master. It wouldn't work as a slave for me.
But when i tried to use the downloaded firmware 1.06 or 1.07, it would not say it is present.
Mine came with 1.06 firmware and I haven't had the need to upgrade. Upgrading can be tricky and can ruin your drive if done incorrectly.

The drive is ready to burn out of the box and doesn't need additional drivers installed. You can upgrade the firmware if you want to use cheaper media. I use Memorex (Ricoh) 4x +R and TDK 4x +R and everything is perfectly smooth.
Oh, and if Nero doesn't recognize it then download the upgrade from their site.
Get a program like Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD or DVD X Copy Express to make backups the easy way.
Hope this helps! -
I'm a firm believer in "If it ain't broke don't fix it", so no need to be upgrading any firmware unless the drive is having problems IMO. There are no drivers to install for the drive BTW. If Nero doesn't see the drive then re-install Nero plus get any updates from the web. Finally use DVDshrink which is a free program to backup your DVD's.

I agree with others, use DVDshrink for backups, it's great and free!
Grab it and see if it sees your drive, it should rip and shrink your DVD.
Can you see the drive with windows explorer? There is really nothing to do when you buy a cd or dvd burner/drive bulk/oem. Just set jumper connect ide cable and power cable. Boot up windows, drive is installed and SHOULD work.
Put real dvd in drive, use windows explorer to read drive. If you can see the disk in the drive, then drive is installed and should be working.
Try something like Power DVD and see if DVD plays. If it plays, drive is working, if not you have a problem.
If drive shows to be working, then try other burning programs and see if they see the drive as a writer. I think Decrypter has a burner. Tmpgenc DVD author has a built in burner, free 30 day demo, and others available free or working demo's too. Check out the tools section.
Update Nero if you can also. But try something else too.
Pay software is not always better! Look at M$ !! Almost anything free works better than the same thing you buy from M$!! And free doesn't need half as many patches! -
For some reason, Dvd decrypter does not detect my drive. But under explorer i see it and it detects my dvd. Not sure which program to get.

Try the latest DVD Decrypter 3.1.7.0 and the latest Nec1300 firmware 1.08.
